Gaining Recognition & Sustaining a Club • 10 undergraduate UNR students enrolled in 7+ credits • One (1) Advisor who is currently employed by the University (Administrative/Academic Faculty & Staff) • Constitution • Appointment of a President & Treasurer • Signature card signed by President & Treasurer (minimum) and turned into the ASUN Accounting Office

Funding Tier 2 Tier 1 • Tier 2a • Travel that enriches leadership, academic, professional, and athletic development • Consumable items (travel, food, conference registration, etc.) • Tier 2b • Enrich leadership, academic, professional, and athletic development • Does not actively involve greater student population • Consumable items (speaker fees, food, etc.) • On campus event • Open to the undergraduate campus community • Actively marketed to students outside organization’s standard demographic • Club must raise 25% of it’s projected expenses for each event • $4,000 cap per semester • Club must raise 25% of it’s projected • expenses for each event • $2,000 cap per academic year
Funding Cont’d Tier 3 • Assist club infrastructure • Recruitment and/or retention purposes • Materials, apparel, awards, supplies, etc. • $700 cap per academic year • NOTE: clubs do not have to raise funds for this tier
Successful Advising Tips Do: • Help them to see alternatives and provide an outside perspective • Make sure to understand the importance of, and encourage OPEN DIALOGUE Don’t: • Only get to know the club leaders • Say you know, when you don’t • Use the club to promote your agenda
Why Advise? • The Liability Myth • “…institutions need to ensure that student have the skills, support systems, and authority required to carry out [their] responsibilities successfully” (Ackerman, Werner, Vaccaro ed., 2005 p. 139). YOU are that support system!! • An advocate for THEIR purpose • Retention Retention Retention!!!
