  2. Ancient Greece 1750 BC -133 BC Greece was known as the birthplace of the western civilization, it has been said that it was developed around 2000 BC.

  3. Beliefs & Religion -The beliefs of ancient greece are that they worshipped many gods therefore they are polytheistic. - Greek myths explained the origins of the gods, and told how they were all different.

  4. - Oligarchy is when only one person controls a country, organization, or an institution. - There were military based governments (Spartans) and there were educational based governments to (Athens). - Democracy is a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible member of a state ; elected representatives. -The different governments are Oligarchy, Monarchy, and Democracy. Government - Monarchy is a form of government with a monarch at head.

  5. Inventions The greece were remembered for many different inventions, these are a couple of the most known ones: • The thermometer • vending machine • map • alarm clock • the anchor

  6. Geography • There were many important geographic conditions, but one of the most known one was the Euphrates and Tigris rivers. • These rivers were on each side of Mesopotamia.

  7. Historical Figures • Athenian Acropolis (The embodiment of Athen) • Mycenae (Home of The King Agamemnon) • Olympia(home of ancient olympic games) • Delphi (religious centre & home of the oracle)

  8. Contributions • Democracy - government • Philosophy - Socrates, Aristotle, and Plato • History - Herodotus and Thucydides • Olympic Games - Olympia • Epic Poetry - Homer & Iliad • Military Science - Leonidas, Themistocles, etc. • Bouzouki music and Greek dancing.

  9. Difficulties & Hardships • Persian War: Greece maintains its independence and stops the spread of the Persian Empire • Peloponnesian War: Ended Athenian domination of the Greek world, but Athens remained the cultural center of Greece. • Trojan War: 10 year long war between Greece & Troy. Greece won.

  10. Culture • Greek culture involved a lot of sculptures and many different arts. • With sculptures such as the Roman Coliseum, Diskobolos Discus Thrower, and sculptures of Alexander the great.
