Feasts Discussion The first four of the seven feasts occur during the springtime (Passover, Unleavened Bread, First Fruits, and Weeks), and they all have already been fulfilled by Christ in the New Testament. The final three holidays (Trumpets, the Day of Atonement, and Tabernacles) occur during the fall, all within a short fifteen-day period. Many Bible scholars and commentators believe that these fall feasts have not yet been fulfilled by Jesus. However, the “blessed hope” (Titus 2:13) for all believers in Jesus Christ is that they most assuredly will be fulfilled. As the four spring feasts were fulfilled literally and right on the actual feast day in connection with Christ's first coming, these three fall feasts, it is believed by many, will likewise be fulfilled literally in connection to the Lord's second coming. In a nutshell, here is the prophetic significance of each of the seven Levitical feasts of Israel: 1) Passover (Leviticus 23:5) – Pointed to the Messiah as our Passover lamb (1 Corinthians 5:7) whose blood would be shed for our sins. Jesus was crucified on the day of preparation for the Passover at the same hour that the lambs were being slaughtered for the Passover meal that evening.2) Unleavened Bread (Leviticus 23:6) – Pointed to the Messiah's sinless life (as leaven is a picture of sin in the Bible), making Him the perfect sacrifice for our sins. Jesus' body was in the grave during the first days of this feast, like a kernel of wheat planted and waiting to burst forth as the bread of life.3) First Fruits (Leviticus 23:10) – Pointed to the Messiah's resurrection as the first fruits of the righteous. Jesus was resurrected on this very day, which is one of the reasons that Paul refers to him in 1 Corinthians 15:20 as the "first fruits from the dead."4) Weeks or Pentecost (Leviticus 23:16) – Occurred fifty days after the beginning of the Feast of Unleavened Bread and pointed to the great harvest of souls and the gift of the Holy Spirit for both Jew and Gentile, who would be brought into the kingdom of God during the Church Age (see Acts 2). The Church was actually established on this day when God poured out His Holy Spirit and 3,000 Jews responded to Peter's great sermon and his first proclamation of the gospel.
Feasts Discussion 5) Trumpets (Leviticus 23:24) – The first of the fall feasts. Many believe this day points to the Rapture of the Church when the Messiah Jesus will appear in the heavens as He comes for His bride, the Church. The Rapture is always associated in Scripture with the blowing of a loud trumpet (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 and 1 Corinthians 15:52).6) Day of Atonement (Leviticus 23:27) – Many believe this prophetically points to the day of the Second Coming of Jesus when He will return to earth. That will be the Day of Atonement for the Jewish remnant when they "look upon Him whom they have pierced," repent of their sins, and receive Him as their Messiah (Zechariah 12:10 and Romans 11:1-6, 25-36).7) Tabernacles or Booths (Leviticus 23:34) – Many scholars believe that this feast day points to the Lord's promise that He will once again “tabernacle” with His people when He returns to reign over all the world (Micah 4:1-7).
Revelation 21 Discussion • Is the New Jerusalem the Bride? • New Jerusalem is adorned as a bride (v. 2) • The bride is shown to John (v. 9) and immediately after this the New Jerusalem is described • Is the Bride then the New Jerusalem? • Other Verses: • 2 Corinthians 11:2—The church is the bride of Christ • Rev. 19:9-Marriage Supper of the Lamb
Revelation 21 Discussion • Here, however, the New Jerusalem is described as it will be in the eternal state, and it is said to be “a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.” Because the church is pictured in Scripture as a bride (2 Cor. 11:2), some have tried to identify the New Jerusalem’s inhabitants as specifically the church saints, excluding saints of other dispensations. However, the use of marriage as an illustration is common in Scripture, not only to relate Christ to the church but also Yahweh to Israel. Though the city is compared to a beautifully dressed bride, it actually is a city, not a person or group of people. • John F. Walvoord, Roy B. Zuck and Dallas Theological Seminary, The Bible Knowledge Commentary: An Exposition of the Scriptures (Wheaton, IL: Victor Books, 1985), Re 21:2.
Eschatology Definition • The study of last things or end times. • This can include both end times for an individual or for the whole world. • Today’s class will not be focused on personal (individual) eschatology but upon eschatology as it relates to the end of the world

Are Believer’s called to wrath? • 1 Thessalonians 1:10 (NKJV) • 10 and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come. • 1 Thessalonians 2:19 (NKJV) • 19 For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Is it not even you in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at His coming? • 1 Thessalonians 5:9-11 (NKJV) • 9For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him. • 11 Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing. • Revelation 6:16-17—The Time of the Tribulation is known as the day of God’s wrath, something we have not been appointed to as believers!
Issues of Imminency • Dr. Stallard presents an argument for imminency that puts little to no weight upon the Matthew 24 passage that many pre-tribulationalists hang their hat upon. • I would suggest that John 14 also makes a case for an imminent return
The Tribulation Period • Matthew 24 • Looks much like 7 seals of Revelation • Revelation 6-19 • Chapter 6—Seal Judgments • Chapter 7-144,000 of Israel Sealed • Chapter 8-9—Trumpet Judgments • Chapter 10—The Little Book • Chapter 11—The Two Witnesses • Chapter 12-Woman (Israel), Child (Jesus) and Dragon (Satan) • Chapter 13-Beast from the Sea (Anti-Christ) and Earth (False Prophet) • Chapter 14-Throne Room Scene • Chapter 15-16 Bowl Judgments • Chapter 17-Scarlet Woman (False Religion) • Chapter 18-Politcal Babylon Falls! • Chapter 19-2nd Advent of Jesus Christ! 1 1 1 2 2 2 3 3 3 4 4 4 5 5 5 6 6 6 7 7 7
The Conclusion of the Tribulation Period • Matthew 25 • Parable of the 10 Virgins (1-13) and parable of the 10 talents (14-30) • Jews in the tribulation who either are or are not prepared for the 2nd advent of Christ. Believe Jews enter Millennium and unbelieving Jews enter damnation. • Son of Man’s judgment of the nations/gentiles (31-46 • The gentiles are now judged much like the Jews and they will be separated (sheep and goat judgment) and believing gentiles enter Millennium and unbelieving gentiles enter damnation.
Introduction to the Millennium • See page 33 in notes • Amillennialism • There is no such thing as a millennial earthly kingdom. When Christ returns, the redeemed will enter the eternal state • Postmillennialism including Dominion Theology • Christ will return to earth after the millennial kingdom on earth. The Church will bring in the kingdom before the return of the Messiah • Premillennialism • Christ is coming back to earth to establish the millennial kingdom, a literal 1,000 year, earthly kingdom which will be followed by the eternal state. • Historic Premillennialism typically embraces post-tribulationalism • Dispensational Premillennialism typically embrace pre-tribulationalism
