6. After admission, what next? Plan ahead for a positive transfer experience! • Understand the ELPR • Send required documentation to UW before registering • Plan to take AEP classes if needed

7. Understand the ELPR http://registrar.washington.edu/students/english-proficiency/ All new freshmen and transfer students must satisfy the ELPR upon enrolling at the UW Seattle Campus. Students who enter the UW with one of the following qualifying tests or programs will have satisfied the requirement: • A minimum score on one of several qualifying standardized tests • Completion of a qualifying associate degree from a Washington community college • Successful completion of the UW Intensive English Program

8. Understand the ELPR - http://registrar.washington.edu/students/english-proficiency/ Students who are non-native speakers of English and do not enter the UW by meeting one of the above criteria will be required to take AEP classes each quarter until they finish the required sequence.

11. Qualifying Washington Associate Degree http://registrar.washington.edu/students/english-proficiency/ • Approved associate’s degree from WA state community college • Qualifying degrees • Completed before enrolling at UW Send official transcript with posted degree as soon as possible.

12. UW Intensive English Program http://www.ielp.uw.edu/programs/academic-prep/iep/university.asp • Students who have completed the University Track of the IEP at UW have met the ELPR. • Students should contact IELPAdvising@pce.uw.edu to have the official letter sent to UW prior to registration.

13. What if a student has not met the ELPR? • Advise the student to plan to take AEP classes • Will not be able to register for classes without registering first for ENGL 102 or another AEP class • For more information about placement, see: http://www.aep.washington.edu/courses/placement.asp • In Autumn Quarter, AEP classes are offered during Early Fall Start and are open to transfer students • Students can also take the AEP Placement test • Must be taken the quarter before starting at UW • http://www.washington.edu/oea/services/testing_center/exams/aep.html
