  3. Mark 16: 15-18 • 15 And then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone. • 16Anyone who believesand is baptized will be saved…17These miraculous signswill accompany those who believe: • They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages. • 18 They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won’t hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed.”

  4. The 12 and ALL of us are Ordained - given the divine mandate • We are given specific instructions for ministry – APPOINTED AND CALLED • We are to ACCOMPANYJesus (be with Jesus) • We are to PREACH the Good News • We will have power to HEAL • We will have the power to CAST OUT DEMONS

  5. JAIRUS DAUGHTER • Luke 8:49-56 (NLT) • While he was still speaking to her, a messenger arrived from the home of Jairus, the leader of the synagogue. He told him, “Your daughter is dead. There’s no use troubling the Teacher now.”50 But when Jesus heard what had happened, he said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid. Just have faith, and she will be healed.”51When they arrived at the house, Jesus wouldn’t let anyone go in with him except Peter, John, James, and the little girl’s father and mother.

  6. JAIRUS DAUGHTER • 52 The house was filled with people weeping and wailing, but he said, “Stop the weeping! She isn’t dead; she’s only asleep.”53 But the crowd laughed at him because they all knew she had died.54 Then Jesus took her by the hand and said in a loud voice, “My child, get up!”55 And at that moment her life returned, and she immediately stood up! Then Jesus told them to give her something to eat.56 Her parents were overwhelmed, but Jesus insisted that they not tell anyone what had happened.

  7. THE MOUNT OF TRANSFIGURATION • Luke 9:28-33 (NLT) • About eight days later Jesus took Peter, James, and John up on a mountain to pray.29 • And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was transformed, and his clothes became dazzling white.30 Then two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared and began talking with Jesus.31 They were glorious to see.

  8. THE MOUNT OF TRANSFIGURATION • And they were speaking about his exodus from this world, which was about to be fulfilled in Jerusalem.32 Peter and the others had fallen asleep. When they woke up, they saw Jesus’ glory and the two men standing with him.33 As Moses and Elijah were starting to leave, Peter, not even knowing what he was saying, blurted out, “Master, it’s wonderful for us to be here! Let’s make three shelters as memorials —one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.

  9. PRAYER IN THE GARDEN • Mark 14:32-35 (NLT) • They went to the olive grove called Gethsemane, and Jesus said, “Sit here while I go and pray.”33He took Peter, James, and John with him, and he became deeply troubled and distressed.34 He told them, “My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”35 He went on a little farther and fell to the ground. He prayed that, if it were possible, the awful hour awaiting him might pass him by

  10. These were special times and events that others were not able to witness. • WHAT SEPARATES THEM FROM THE REST OF THE DISCIPLES?

  11. Peter is defined by his Zealousness for the things of God • Peter was always reaching for a deeper relationship with Jesus

  12. So what defines James and John • James & John • Each has a book of the Bible • Each book has a major theme

  13. The book of James is Faith • James 2:20 • You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror.20 How foolish! Can’t you see that faith without good deeds is useless? • James 2:19-20 (NLT)

  14. The book of John is Love • John 3:16 • “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.17 God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. • John 3:16-17 (NLT)

  15. DISCORUAGEMENT, DISAPPOINTMENT, DISILLUSIONMENT • – Road to Emmaus Eyes opened, heart warm! • 31 Suddenly, their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And at that moment he disappeared!32 They said to each other, “Didn’t our hearts burn within us as he talked with us on the road and explained the Scriptures to us?”33 And within the hour they were on their way back to Jerusalem. There they found the eleven disciples and the others who had gathered with them,34 who said, “The Lord has really risen! He appeared to Peter. ” Luke 24:31-34 (NLT)

  16. HURT and REJECTION • – King David being dethroned by his son, Absalom. King David about to be stoned by his warriors at Ziglak. • – David saw with God’s perspective! • 5 As King David came to Bahurim, a man came out of the village cursing them. It was Shimei son of Gera, from the same clan as Saul’s family.6 He threw stones at the king and the king’s officers and all the mighty warriors who surrounded him.7 “Get out of here, you murderer, you scoundrel!” he shouted at David. 2 Sam 16:5-7 (NLT)

  17. LIFE THREATENING SITUATION LIKE SICKNESS • – Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego  “But If Not”, “If I Die I Die – called to such a time as this”” • 16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you.17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty.18 But even if he doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.” Dan 3:16-18 (NLT)
