Important Notes • The NeSA-Writing Online field test is for grades 8 and 11. • The field test results will be used for choosing prompts for future assessments. • The field test prompts are considered secure test materials. • Field test responses cannot be used in any other way by districts or schools – no local scoring. • There are no paper/pencil accommodated versions of the field test.

7. More Important Notes • Online NeSA-Writing practice tests are currently available. • The field test is also an opportunity for students to practice taking the test under the same conditions as the regular NeSA-Writing test. • Prompts will be assigned randomly to students. • The NeSA-Writing Online Field Test is an untimedtest – does not generally exceed 90 minutes. • The NeSA-Writing Field Test is optional, but participation is strongly encouraged and appreciated.

8. Accessing Online Management Tools • Accessed through eDIRECT • https://ne.drcedirect.com • District Assessment Contacts (DACs) will have access to the NeSA-Writing Spring 2013 Administration in eDIRECT on November 8. • DACs may then assign Online Management Tools permissions to other users.

9. Online Management Tools – Data Tools • Add a Student • Student Editor – view and edit student data • Identification – ID # & Name • Location – School & Grade • Demographic • Not Tested • Accommodations – IEP/504 & Visual • Alternate Assessment • Linguistic Support – ELL • Any edits made in Student Editor for the NeSA-Writing Field Test will not update NSSRS and will notbe retained for the NeSA-Writing Operational. Mark Visual Accommodations prior to printing Test Session Tickets. Not required for the NeSA-Writing Field Test.

10. 12. Preparing Testing Locations • Plan ahead – check schedules. • Confirm computers have been updated with the latest version of the testing software (CAL 6.7.1) —Update available on November 12. • Prepare testing location – remove visual aids/clues. • Provide blank scratch paper for students who wishto pre-write on paper.

13. Test Security for Test Administrators • The field test prompts are not to be viewed by anyone prior to test administration. • The NeSA-Writing field test prompts may not be copied. • No coaching or feedback of any kind with regard to the test content should be provided to students. • Talking or sharing of responses should be prohibited.

14. Accessing the Field Test • Use the NeSA shortcut on the computer desktop to access the Practice Test and the NeSA-Writing Field Test.
