  2. Always start with the ones column • Find the DIFFERENCE between the top and bottom numbers

  3. Can I remove 6 ? No ! 2 4 -1 6

  4. I have 4 ones. Ones 24 Can I remove 6 ones? - 16 NO!

  5. If there are not enough ones, one ten must be regrouped.

  6. for 10 ones. Exchange 1 ten

  7. I have 2 tens. 10+4=14 ones Tens 1 2 4 1 Exchange 1 ten for 10 ones. Now I only have 1 ten. - 1 6

  8. Now subtract the ones.

  9. Remove 6 ones. 14 - 6 = 8

  10. 14 – 6 = 8 1 2 4 1 - 1 6 8

  11. Now subtract the tens.

  12. 1 - 1 = 0

  13. 1 2 4 1 1 – 1 = 0 - 1 6 8

  14. Exchange 1 ten for 10 ones.
