Sailing In Dublin Club • Basic objective of the club is to offer regular sailing at low cost. • This is achieved by sharing the use and upkeep of the sailing fleet. • Not a proper substitute for structured training courses e.g. Glenans • SID relies on its members to organise sailing nights, rescue cover, boat maintenance, social and other activities etc. Sailing In Dublin
Organisation • Captain and Vice captain for each session • Members are allocated a sailing session but may sail on other sessions if places are available • Be on time or let Captain know if you will be late or are not attending • Fleet is 6 X 420s’, Laser 1, Ruffian Sailing In Dublin
Before Sailing • Sign log book • Listen carefully to sailing plan • Help with preparation and launch of Rescue boat • Prepare your boat Sailing In Dublin
Boat Preparation • Be responsible for your own boat • Boat must be rigged properly • Tiller, Rudder, Paddles, Bailer and spinnaker pole should be tied in • Check bungs and buoyancy tanks • Do not sail a damaged boat • Help others get ready ! Sailing In Dublin
Personal Safety • Be properly dressed • Must wear a wetsuit and runners/booties (or warm clothes/rain gear and soft soled shoes for the Ruffian) • Must wear a life jacket • Wear a windcheater, Hat, Gloves • Know your own sailing ability and limits • Suntan lotion, Food, soft drink • Sailing Knife Sailing In Dublin
Safety rules • Follow captains instructions • Follow instructions of rescue crew • No sailing above force 4 • Life jacket at all times • Rescue boat must be launched and started before other boats are launched • Rescue boat is last off the water Sailing In Dublin
On the water • Stay in Harbour until all boats are ready to leave • Stay close to other boats and rescue boat at all times • Stick to sailing plan/area unless told otherwise • Let Captain/Rescue know if there is a problem Sailing In Dublin
Capsize Drill • Don’t panic • Stay with boat and check that your crew is OK • Un-cleat Sheets • Bring boat head to wind • Other boats should heave-to in the vicinity • Let rescue know if you are cold Sailing In Dublin
Rights of way • HSS and other commercial craft have right of way (£1000 fine, SID does not pay) • Watch out for other boats and avoid collision even if you have right of way • Take early and clear action to avoid collisions • Sail before power rule ..Don’t rely on rule Sailing In Dublin
After Sailing • Rescue boat is last off the water • Help pulling up rescue boat and other boats up slipway • De-rig boat and pack all equipment in its correct place • Fix any minor damage • Report any incidents/damage to Captain Sailing In Dublin
