ISU is focused on improving student success and graduation rates. The university has implemented several initiatives and strategies to ensure student retention and timely completion of degrees. This includes providing financial aid support, completion audits, and enhanced advising programs.

Graduation Rate as a Priority ISU has accomplished many of the goals outlined in the Strategic Plan. But one glaring issue is our student success/graduation rate. We’ve asked Dan to focus on that. We’ve also offered him the full weight and support of the Board. What Informs Our Effort Strategy… Key Factors that Affect Retention and Persistence: Institutional Factors: -Belief about students -Programs for underpreparation -Integration mechanisms -Institutional aid -Teaching skills -Time it takes to get a degree Student Factors: -Is ISU their first choice? -Are they prepared for college? -Do they believe they belong in college? -Do they have focus? -Can they afford to stay? -Do they have alternatives?
Graduation Impact Strategy: Immediate Term • To impact graduation rates for next year… • Institutional help for Indiana seniors with up to $2,500 in account balances owed to ISU. • Completion audits for juniors and seniors. • Intrusive attention to Fall 2010 Cohort for 6-year rate and Fall 2012 for 4-year rate. • Full-time enrollment campaign for JRs & SRs including transfer/distance students. • Summer Term 2016 improvements.
Graduation Impact Strategy: Longer Term • To impact retention and persistence… • New bridging and probation initiatives. • Random/Control Research Design Projects: • Social belonging with incoming freshmen. • Math mindset. • Freshmen advising load. • Course Transformation Academy. • Departmental Student Success Plans. • Curricular pathway improvements. • Additional institutional need aid programs. • Changes to advising for sophomores and higher. • Deeper ROI educ. for students, faculty, and staff.
