The Process of Application Review • Ideal Timetable for a typical freshman application • October - Application is submitted • November – all documentation has been received (transcripts, test scores etc.) • December – applicant is notified of acceptance • February – admitted student is notified of merit based scholarship awards • March – admitted student attends a yield event • (off campus reception, Accepted Student Wknd, tour) • April – admitted student is notified of financial aid awards • April – admitted student enrolls, completes housing and registers for orientation • June - August – enrolled student attends orientation, registers for class • and finalizes billing
The Process of Application Review Major Application Deadlines for Freshman Applicants Early Action – November 1st non-binding, applicants are guaranteed a decision by mid-December Scholarship Deadline – December 1st students who apply by this date are considered for merit scholarships Priority Deadline – February 1st students who apply by this date are guaranteed a decision by April 1st National Decision Deadline – May 1st students must commit by this date to guarantee on campus housing
The Process of Application Review • How we review an application for admission…. • 1st review by primary territorial counselor followed by a 2nd review from a director • Admissions Committee is comprised of admissions counselors and directors • Holistic, qualitative and quantitative evaluation of materials: • Academics • Curriculum and rigor • Advanced placement, international baccalaureate and honors • Testing • SAT – super score reading and math evaluate writing as a separate test • ACT – best combined score • Activities, Awards, Honors and Diversity • focusing on service and leadership • Special skills and talents • athletes, musicians and artists
Accepted Student Profile • The middle 50 percent of freshmen accepted for fall 2010: • Scored between 1070 and 1230 and/or 23 and 27 on ACT (in-state). • Scored between 1140 and 1280 and/or 25 and 29 on the ACT (OOS). • Graduated in the top 20 percent of the class. • Average GPA is a 3.75 (combined in state and out of state scales) • Had consistent academic achievement in the A/B range in a rigorous college prep program of study.
Taking it to the next level… • Continued increases in scholarship and financial aid offers will help the College improve upon declining yields of in-state and out state enrollments. • Build upon growing national reputation by increasing recruitment presence in growing out of state markets (West Coast, Texas and New England). • Increase the amount of diverse and male applicants and enrollees through new academic offerings, continued outreach and marketing initiatives.
