  1. Applying Energy Management Standards at Higher School Educational Establishments EUGENE GASHO, Institute for energy efficiency problems, National research university “moscow power engineering institute”

  2. Energy Management and Energy efficiency • Energy management is the systematic use of management and technology to improve an organisation’s energy performance. • It needs to be integrated, proactive, and incorporate energy procurement, energy efficiency and renewable energy to be fully effective. • Energy management is essential if you want to control costs, be fully compliant with legislation and enhance the organisation’s reputation. • Energy efficiency aims to gain the maximum results or effects from each unit of energy used; it’s about achieving the same outcomes through less energy. • In Russia, raising energy efficiency is one of key national development priority objectives.

  3. Main challenges • In all economic sectors, energy efficiency (EE) improvement need highly qualified professionals. • In Russia, buildings need a lot of attention in terms of EE improvement • Buildings are responsible for ~ 35% of energy consumption in Russia • Being aware and being trained theoretically does not mean being enabled to work in practice on EE improvement projects. • Involving students in practical projects allows training professionals and achieving EE targets.

  4. ISO standards as key training and practical tools: iso 50001 • ISO 50001:2011 Energy management systems – Requirements with guidance for use, is a voluntary International Standard developed by ISO • ISO 50001 gives organizations the requirements for energy management systems (EnMS). • ISO 50001 provides benefits for organizations large and small, in both public and private sectors, in manufacturing and services, in all regions of the world. • ISO 50001 will establish a framework for industrial plants, commercial, institutional, and governmental facilities, and entire organizations to manage energy. • Targeting broad applicability across national economic sectors, it is estimated that the standard could influence up to 60 % of the world’s energy use.

  5. ISO standards as key training and practical tools: energy performance of buildings • ISO/TR 16344:2012 Energy performance of buildings -- Common terms, definitions and symbols for the overall energy performance rating and certification. • ISO 16346:2013 Energy performance of buildings -- Assessment of overall energy performance. • ISO 12655:2013 Energy performance of buildings –Presentation of measured energy use of buildings • ISO 12655:2013 sets out a consistent methodology to present energy use in buildings, which is specified clearly with the energy usage, corresponding boundary and the energy data. It is applicable to the presentation of energy use of civil buildings for data collection, metering, statistics, audit and analysis.
