BI Technologies Applications: Electric guitar tone, volume and pick up selection controls. Electric guitar stomp boxes and sound pedals used for sound enhancement effects and distortion. Panel controls for low to high end amps and pre-amps.
Application – Guitar Volume & Tone Controls How the product works: Panel grade potentiometers are used to control volume and tone output by musicians. The wave sounds generated by the strings are amplified by the pick ups and fed to Potentiometers which can further amplify the sound as well as adjust the tone. The diagram below on the left shows a master volume set up (one volume control for all pick-ups). Other guitar manufactures like to assign individual volume and tone controls to individual pick ups such as the diagram on the right.
Application – Guitar Volume & Tone Controls How the product works: The picture on the left shows the dial knobs mounted on to the potentiometer shaft. The picture on the right shows how the product is actually mounted. Pick-Ups Potentiometers Pick-Up Selector Switch Guitar Panel Adjustment Knobs
Applications – Guitar Wah Pedal Effects Typical Guitar Rig How the product works: Musicians use different types of guitar (wah) pedals in their set-up to produce distinctive tones while playing the guitar by rocking a pedal back and forth. As the pedal is rocked the Potentiometer in the band pass filter circuit shown below moves the resonant peak (output) up and down in frequency creating the distinct wah tone. Wah-Pedal Potentiometer Band Pass Filter
Applications – Guitar Volume Pedals How the product works: Many Customers will also add a volume pedal to their guitar rig. The pedal works similar to the Wah in that you rock it back and forth but instead of varying the frequency you adjust the actual volume of the guitar through the amplifier by varying the resistance on the potentiometer.
Application - Stomp Box How the product works: Effects units or Stomp Boxes are small plastic or metal boxes musicians connect to their electric guitar to add a sound effect, feel or distortion to their sound. The pedal is activated typically by one on off switch. A musician may have multiple effects units in his rig / pedal board. A Stomp Box will have several control settings including level, tone, morph and gain. They typically use 9 and 16 mm panel pots such as our P09x and P160 Series Stomp-Box Pedal Board Stomp Box Controls
Application – Pre-Amplification Controls How the product works: Pre-amp definitions vary amongst musicians and sound techs. They are typically used however to take the signal from the effects pedal and elevate it to a workable level. This device also has the ability to shape the tone of the sound through the multiple controls available on the front panel. The Panel potentiometers used in these devices work in much the same way as the tone and volume controls used on guitars and stomp boxes. The P260 series is an excellent candidate for these devices. Application –-Amplifier Controls How the product works: Amplifiers will take the signal from the pre-amp and or processors and amplify the signal driving the speakers. Some Speakers will have amplification controls contained within the speaker. Potentiometers are used to control various amp settings on the panel. Amplifiers Combo Amp / Speaker Power Amp
