  2. Bioinorganic Chemistry : • Bioinorganic chemistry is that branches of physical science whose objective is to explain the physiological and biochemical process of chemical elements. • Living bodies are made-up many compounds possessing various elements. • The twenty five elements are most vital to healthy human body. • Forty naturally occurring elements detected living bodies. • Metal – Na, K, Ca, Mg, r, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Zn, Sn, & Ni • Non-Metal – H, C, Si, N, O, p, S, Cl & I

  3. Principal Mineral Elements (Macro Elements) The are seven Elements. Sodium, Potassium, Magnesium, Calcium, Phosphorous , Sulphur & Chlorine. Trace Elements – These elements are found in living tissues in very small quantities which are micro elements. Essential trace elements : Iron, Copper, Zinc, Manganese, Cobalt, Molybdenum, Chromiem, Iodine Fluorine, Possibly essential trace elements :- Nickel, tin vanadium and silicon

  4. Metalloperphyrins • One of the most important ways in which metal ions participates in Bio-chemistry is that complex with type of macro cyclic ligend is known as porphyrin • Myoglobin and hemoglobin are metal porphysrins which contain heme group in their structure. • The heme group consist of an fe atom which is co-ordinated to four nitrogen atoms of porphyrin • The molar mass of myoglobin is about 1700c myglobin which has not taken up oxygen is called deoxymyoglobin. • The oxygenated myoglobin is called oxymyoglobin.

  5. Role of myoglobin and Hemoglobin in biological System • Oxygenation Hemoglobin picks up oxygen from the lungs and carries it to muscle tissues. The circulatory system. • The oxygenated hemoglobin then transfer this oxygen to the myoglobin present in the muscle tissues. • Oxygen carrier hemoglobin has additional function of carrying Co2 from worked up muscles tissues. • The side chain presents on polypeptide chains of hemoglobin • Oxygenation of myglobin may be represents as • Mb + O2 MbO2

  6. Nitrogen Fixation • The nitrogen atom consisting bimolecular such as amino acids pyrimidines etc come form NH4 ions • The atmospheric nitrogen by its chemical of biochemical reduction • The process of conversion of atmospheric nitrogen in to NH4 ions is known as fixation of nitrogen • The body energy of the N = N bond quite high the nitrogen bond is highly resistant to chemical attack. • The biological process of nitrogen fixation though less efficient takes place ordinary condition of pressure and temperature. • The nitrogenase complex is composed of two kinds of protein components. • 1) one component is known as the reductase • 2) other component is known as nitrogenase.
