  3. Marxists directed hatred towards elite (both in First world democracies and Third World dictatorships) • Theorists try to make Marxism relevant to massive student populations and growing middle class in climate of increasing disparities in wealth and conservatism of older generation

  4. Central feature of new revolutionary groups: • Affluent, educated students hoping to make revolution on behalf of poor masses • Examples: Tupamaros (Uruguay), The Shining Path (Peru), The Weather Underground (USA), The Baader-Meinhof Gang (Germany), The Red Brigades (Italy)
