Subjects • The subject is the part f the sentence that tells whom or what the sentence is about. • All the words in the subject are called the compete subject. • The simple subject is the most important word in the complete subject.
Predicates • The predicate is the part of the sentence that tells what the subject is or does. • All the words in the predicate are called the complete predicate. • The simple predicate, or verb, is the most important word in the complete predicate.
Example • My aunt lives in Ohio. • Complete subject: My aunt • Complete predicate: lives in Ohio • Simple subject: aunt • Simple predicate: lives
Compound subject • A compound subject is made up of two or more subjects. • A compound predicate is made up of two or more predicates.
example Gina and I live and work in Ohio. Compound subject: Gina and I Compound predicate: live and work
Practice • Read the sentences. Find the complete subject, the complete predicate, the simple subject, and the simple predicate. • Please raise your hand and wait to be called on.
