Rhetorical Question: Again I ask what is History? • History is not just what has been pounded in your head in school: names, datesandevents 1512 3000BC 1776 Martin Luther Queen Elizabeth Adolph Hitler Thomas Jefferson Leonardo DaVinci 1939 Christopher Columbus George Washington 2001 476AD
[Hi-“story”] is about…. Making Connections Establishing Relationships Forming Identities Learning from Experiences
My “HiSTORY” • The World at this very moment; the United States at this very moment was shaped by the [hi-“story”] of past people and events. • In a sense your life is like the [hi-“story”] of the World… • The person you are at this very moment was shaped by the people & events which have impacted you the most.
Summer Reading: Randy Pausch’sThe Last Lecture • My Initial Thought … • Underlying focus was goals/dreams & achievement • HOWEVER after reading the book I could not help but think about the people & events which have made a lasting impact on my HiSTORY. • How do I expect us to know or learn about history in this country or the world if we don’t even know our own STORY.
