IPD Program Mission Statement: To develop, implement and support a comprehensive campus-wide educational and research environment focused on experiential learning in design, innovation & technical entrepreneurship.
IPD Project year 2004 (January - December) IPD Program Audience: 203 undergraduate students, representing 20 majors are working in 34 cross disciplinary teams with 18 faculty advisorsand22 industry sponsors. We currently have 4 student entrepreneurial teamswith both undergraduate and graduate student members. The graduate programs include independent programs in the colleges of engineering, business, arts & science and education. The MBA program offers a Ventures Series and the IPD graduate courses in Engineering focus on new product development with a globally dispersed team.

Want to start-up a new business or non-profit? Looking for money and time to get started? WINNERS Lead a multi-disciplinary student development team Receive IPD seed funding and the opportunity to receive up to $20,000 Participate in two (2) semesters of IPD Sp’05 and F’05 New in 2004: Actively seeking sustainable technologies and innovations with a social or environmental impact. Faculty attitudes encompass 9 of IPD’s Top 10 Challenges 10. Faculty must be a "guide on the side" not a "sage on the stage" 9. Faculty must encourage student ownership of projects 8. Faculty must stop spoon feeding information & start developing knowledge and wisdom through experiences – empowering for success 7. Faculty must demand rigorous attention to details and due diligence 6. Faculty must respect and engage the talent and skills of other disciplines, outside experts and successful alumni 5. Faculty must seek collaborations, change and risk 4. Faculty must learn from and share lessons learned from failures 3. Faculty must not be problem solvers but opportunity seekers 2. Faculty must model creative, innovative and entrepreneurial behaviorsAnd the number 1 challenge for IPD is: The silo based administrative structures that are unresponsive to cross disciplinary programs; we need a dean for interdisciplinary programs with appropriate funding.
