July 2006 Immediate Funding – Interim • 05-06 Basic Skills over cap $ allocated to colleges • Expenditure plan required in September 2006 • Possibility of amending plan in January 2007
October 2006Phase 1 Begins – Research • Research phase initiated • $50,000 in research funds allocatedthrough Mt. San Antonio College • Research conducted by the Center forStudent Success (RP Group)
The Research includedthe following: • Review of the literature and effective practices • Self-assessment instrument forcolleges to assess their own status • Cost/Revenue Estimation Tool
The Results of the Researchincluded the following areas: • Organizational/Administrative Practices • Program Components • Staff Development • Instructional Practices
February 2007 Phase 2 Begins –Professional Development • RFA for $700,000 for basic skills statewide professional development sent out to colleges in November • College to work with the Academic Senate on planning and delivery • Grant awarded to Foothill/De Anza • Subcontract with Academic Senate
Steering Committee Created: ASCCC, CIO, CSSO Chair: Barbara Illowsky Committee members: Project Director, 6 faculty (math, English, counseling, ESL, reading, humanities), 3 CSSOs,3 CIOs, 1 CEO, System Office, Academic Senate
Role of the Steering Committee Steering Committee will advise the Project Director • Teams of Specialists • Selection and job description and training • Statewide and Regional Meetings • Training Materials • Communicate Project Goals to Colleges • Work with other “Supports”
February – April 2007 • Develop qualifications for Teams of Specialists • Identify team members (2 faculty members, CIO, CSSO-selected by the representative organization) • Identify and schedules campuses for regional meetings on literature review and self-assessment tool • Conference presentations • Pilot self-assessment tool at 12 colleges(Center for Student Success)
