Based on information you provided on your 2012-13 Arizona EXPLORE Initiative Commitment/Order Form, NAU has ordered your testing materials. • As a results, each school will receive (in quantities indicated on order form): • Test Supervisor’s Manual • “Why Take EXPLORE or PLAN?” Handouts • Also Available in Spanish • Instructions for Completing Your Answer Folder • Test Booklets • Answer Folders • School Header • USPS Postage Prepaid Return Envelopes
Pre-ID labels • Use of Pre-ID labels improves accuracy of student demographics and reduces administration time. This service is available free of charge. • All NAU GEAR UP Participating Districts Must Use Pre-ID labels. • Labels will be produced from a file your district or school provides to ACT. YOU MUST PLACE THE ORDER!
Very Important to Note: The printed Pre-ID labels will be mailed in a separate shipment from the test materials. The labels must be applied to page 1 of the EXPLORE answer folders prior to test day.
Warning: NAU GEAR UP EXPLORE Participants can begin ordering on AUGUST 30, 2012 Do NOT place your order beforehand; there are serious consequences if you do!
To Order: To place your order for the labels, download the Pre-ID order form and template from: http://www.act.org/education/order/preid/ ACT’s Customer Service #877-789-2925 Please allow three (3) weeks for processing and delivery of your Pre-ID label orders. All Pre ID ordering must be completed by 5:00 on Friday, September 14, 2012.
Before you Download the Pre-ID Template Be aware that the instructions apply to Excel running on a Windows operating system. ACT can NOT process Mac versions of the Excel template
Step 1: Check Your Version of Excel • Note: These instructions apply to Excel 2003 running on a Windows operating system. ACT can only process Windows-based Excel 2003 files. ACT cannot process Mac versions of Excel • Versions other than Excel 2003 If you are using a version other than Excel 2003, you must save your file as an Excel 2003 workbook when your work is complete and before you encrypt the file • Note: If you are using Excel 2007 or 2010, download separate instructions for tasks 1-4 at this location: Supplemental Instructions for Excel 2007 and Excel 2010 (pdf)
Which version of Excel do you have? Step1 continued • In Excel, click Help on the menu bar • Click About Microsoft Office Excel • Check the version listed at the top of the next window
Step 2: Check the Security Level in Excel • Excel’s Security Level must be set to Medium to display the template’s custom toolbar and to enable the macros in the worksheet to function properly. • Determine your Security Level Setting: • Click on the Tools menu • Select Macro • Select Security • If the security level is set to High or Very High, set it to Medium • Click OK • Close Excel to apply the changes
Step 3: Downloading the Pre-ID Template • Click this link to display the page where you can download the Pre-ID template: • http://www.act.org/education/order/preid/index.html
Step 3 Continued • Click EXPLORE Pre-ID Label Order Form, Instructions and Template (Excel) • When prompted click Save and save the template to your PC. Make a note of the location where you saved the file.
Step 4: Open the Template • Navigate to where you saved the template on your PC and open it. • Click Enable macros • Result: The template opens displaying the Instructions tab. Click on the Add-Ins tab on the menu bar at the top– a custom toolbar will appear. As you fill out your Pre-ID Label order, you can use its buttons to automate various tasks.
Notice the tabs along the bottom. The Instructions tab is very detailed and will be very helpful to you!
The “Layout” Tab tells you the exact format in which the data must be entered.
Format: The information entered onto the spreadsheet must follow very strict formatting rules. For example: There can be no apostrophes in names (e.g., change O’Shea to Oshea)
