31. Financial Aid-Should I apply? • Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (www.fafsa.ed.gov). We encourage ALL students to file a FAFSA. • For summer aid complete a 12/13 FAFSA and a summer school aid application on our website (www.uncw.edu/finaid). • For Fall 13/Spring 14- complete the 13/14 FASFA. • Check UNCW Email and SEANET often. • Your aid package may consist of loans, work study, and grants (federal, state, institutional).

My bill is due..now what? • We can help you get your bill figured out and help you defer your payment if you have financial aid or VA benefits waiting. • We can help you get your books if you are waiting on your financial aid or VA benefits to pay out • In order to place any type of hold on your account, our office must have all VA documents in your file.

33. VA Benefits-What is my first step? • Apply for eligibility with the VA if you have not done so already. This is done online at www.gibill.va.gov. • If you have used benefits at a prior school and are continuing with the same type- complete a 22-1995 or 22-5495 with the VA. • You must complete a VA Class Schedule form each semester you register. • Tell us if you drop a class, are withdrawing from the school or are making any type of changes to your schedule. • Plan accordingly….it can take 6-8 weeks to get your first check from the VA.

34. Important things you need to know…. • VA does not pay for break pay. • All living stipends are pro-rated based on your enrollment. For example if you are enrolled in 9 hours and 12 if full time, your “rate of pursuit” is .75 so you will receive 80% of the applicable BAH rate. • If you are using Chapter 33 and you chose to take all on-line classes you will get one-half the national average BAH for an E-5 with dependents. For 2012 this was $684.00 • Post-911 students…..If you are out-of-state and have not yet talked with Admissions about this or myself, do so ASAP. VA only paying in-state tuition/fees.

Who can I contact? • OSFA is located in the Warwick Center. • There is a financial aid counselor on duty every day. • Current VA walk-in hours are: Monday 3:oopm-4:30pm, Tuesday 12:00pm-1:00pm, Wednesday 10:00am-11:30 am, Thursday 2:00pm-4:00pm. • Or you may schedule an appointment that fits your schedule. • Our number is 910-962-3177 or email at veterans@uncw.edu.
