It Is Time For Improvements • The Accelerated Reading Program is undergoing renovations this year. • Instead of a school–wide point goal being the focus of the program, the individual student has become the center of the reading practice.
The New Achievement Goals #1 • 85% average of comprehension scores each grading period. • Studies show with 20 minutes of reading a day, students will demonstrate the greatest amount of growth in reading levels and growth of comprehension rates. • Intervention will be given to student who are scoring below the 85% average.
The New Achievement Goals #2 • Teachers have set individual point goals with their students. • The point goal was determined after each student’s Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) was measured to assess the student’s present reading level.
The New Achievement Goals #3 • Students should see success if they are reading books with levels within their ZPD range.
AR Grading Policy AR Grading Policy • The AR grade is 10% of the total points earned in Literature class during the 9 weeks. • The Formula: 50 % = 85% comprehension average grade 25% = point goal grade 25% = book level average grade = ______ TOTAL AR GRADE
