The EU Gateway Programme • A programme funded and managed by the European Commission • supporting EU companies in developing durable business cooperation with Japanese and Korean companies • Building upon the experience of the Gateway to Japan Campaign • which has helped about 2.500 European companies to find business partners in Japan over the last 14 years One of the European Commission’s strategic objectives is to strengthen the presence of European Union companies in Japan and Korea
The EU Gateway Programme • 30 missions to Japan and 15 to Korea in 6 economic sectors • Up to 40 EU companies for Japan and up to 30 for Korea per mission
What do we offer? Companies receive: • Professional coaching from the pre-selection to the return from an EU Gateway business week • European Commission financial support: • Hotel accommodation up to €1000,- for one room • Customised services (interpretation, translation, legal advice) 80% of the actual costs up to €1600,- • Promotion of the EU companies in Japan • Business Days venue booths, Business Mission Catalogue, interpreters
Cost for the participants • Costs for the flight • Insurance • Customised services: 20% of total costs and the amount exceeding €1600,- • Extra accommodation costs if applicable • Shipping costs if applicable
What is “Coaching” ? (1) From application to Business Week and up to 18 months after: • Opportunity check and Assistance during Application • Strategic preparation and pre-departure coaching session • Search for matching local companies + appointments • Customised services(interpreters, translation, advice) • On-site stand-by assistance (during the Business Week) • Debriefing and follow-up
What is “Coaching” ? (2) Your regional Gateway contact points
The Business Week in Japan (1) • Introduction to the Japanese market • Study Tour related to your sector activity • Individual meetings following a pre-arranged schedule • Two business days in an organised setting (venue and booths) to present your products or technologies to selected Japanese companies • Receptionhosted by the European Commission to invite your contacts and meet your partners
The Business Week in Japan (2) • On-site coaching and logistic support during the entire Business Week • Individual strategic and logistic de-briefing at the end of the Business Week
Promotion in Japan • EU Gateway Programme mission catalogue: a catalogue in Japanese detailing all the companies participating in the mission • Business Profile: a Japanese translation of a business presentation • Public relations support: an intensive PR campaign in Japan to raise awareness among target audiences of the EU Gateway Programme
Who can participate? Eligibility and conditions for participation: • Exist for at least 5 years, • Fully or majority-owned by European Union capital, • Being located and having its main activities in the European Union, • Active in one of the economic sectors covered by the EU Gateway Programme, • Have proven track records of international business cooperation, • Have a solid business strategy for entering the Japanese and/or Korean markets, • Have a sufficient turnover and number of people employed to guarantee a market entry to Japan and/or Korea For more information on these criteria as well as a definition of the construction and building technology sector. please visit www.eu-gateway.eu
How to apply? Apply for an EU Gateway Business Mission: • Step 1: Fill out an expression of intereston http://www.eu-gateway.eu/go.php?nID=21&page=Participation • Step 2: You will be contacted by a representativeofthe EU Gateway coaching network in Europe. If you and your coach decide to proceed, you will receive a username and password, which will allow you to fill out an application form. • Step 3: Fill out an application form on http://www.eu-gateway.eu/go.php?nID=21&page=Participation • Step 4: After the deadline for application, you will receive a letter from the Commission about the decision on your application. • Step 5: If you are selected you will be contacted and strategic coaching starts, further information will be available for you on the member part of the website. Please bear in mind that for each Business Mission an application deadline is set.
