  1. Robotics! Islam Al-Jarrah

  2. What is a robot • Objectives: • Define what a robot is? • Understand the main parts of a robot. • Define a sensor • Identify each sensor function and applications

  3. Robots • A robot is a machine which senses, plans and acts in a way to perform a task. • Senses:collect information about the environment using sensors like your eyes, ears, etc. • Plans:make decisions based on the information collected by the sensors where the robot has a brain called microcontroller. • Acts:generate an action based on your decision, like moving, speaking, etc

  4. Robot Movements • Examples on robot Movements: • Rotate • Convey • Walk • Swim • Fly • Bend, etc.

  5. Examples of Robotics Movements Run Play Walk Dance

  6. Robots Main Parts • Physical Components: • Microcontroller. • Sensors. • Actuators. • Other components • Software Component.

  7. Microcontroller A Microcontroller is a Robot MIND • Is a computer-on-a chip, they are designed to execute only a single specific task to control a single system. The Microcontroller is the brain of the robot that can think and make decision- like your brain.

  8. Which part of the robot is a microcontroller • The Main software component of a robot. • A type of sensors. • Acts like the robot brain • A type of Motors and actuators

  9. Oops! Read this again and then answer the question • Is a computer-on-a chip, they are designed to execute only a single specific task to control a single system. The Microcontroller is the brain of the robot that can think and make decision- like your brain. Click here to Try again!

  10. Hip! Hip! Hurray! You arecorrect. Excellent!

  11. Sensors • They are the robot Senses like our eyes, ears, mouth, nose and our skin. Robots could sense the environment using the sensors.

  12. The Brain of the Robot An electric device that collects data from the surrounding environment of the robot The part that helps the robot to move from one place to another. Is the software part that us used to program a robot. Which of the following describes a sensor?

  13. OOPS!Read this again . . . • They are the robot Senses like our eyes, ears, mouth, nose and our skin. Robots could sense the environment using the sensors.

  14. That’s it!! You answeredcorrectly. Good job!

  15. Motors and Actuators • They are the action parts which help the robot to move or perform a specific task, like our legs, hands and voice.

  16. Other Physical Components • like Gears, axles, beams, connectors, wires and wheels. The robot will have other parts to support the main physical component.

  17. Lego Mindstorms NXT Kit • It is a Programmable Robotic kit, the one you will be using to build up your own robot and program it in order to perform a task.

  18. Lego Mindstorms NXT Kit - components • NXT Brick. • Sensors: • Touch Sensors. • Light Sensor. • Ultrasonic Sensor. • Sound Sensor. • Motors. • Other components like gears, axels and wheels.

  19. NXT Brick An intelligent, computer-controlled LEGO® brick, the NXT is the brain of the LEGO MINDSTORMS® Education robot. Touch Sensors Enable the robot to respond to obstacles in the environment. Sound Sensor Enables the robot to respond to sound levels. Light Sensor Enables the robot to respond to variations in light level and color. Ultrasonic Sensor Enables the robot to measure distance to an object and to respond to movement.

  20. What is the function of the light sensor • To detect distance • Avoid obstacles • Differentiate colors • Sense the strength of sound Click on your choice to answer

  21. That's it! AWESOME!

  22. Good try . . . read this . . . Revise again Click here to try answering

  23. What is the function of ultrasonic sensor • Detects light • Detects Colors • Avoids obstacles • Measures Distance Click on a choice to advance.

  24. BRAVO! Good Knowledge in Sensors Way to go!

  25. Oops! Read this again - Ultrasonic Sensor Enables the robot to measure distance to an object and to respond to movement. Click here to answer

  26. The title is the name of the story. • The title is usually on the front cover of the book and on the spine. • The title is on a page called The Title Page right before the beginning of the story. • Authors usually choose the title for their book, since they write the words!

  27. To Repeat the lesson Again
