“Hydrodynamic Evolution and Sediment Fluxes of Ria Formosa Inlets” Grant holder: André Pacheco Supervision: Óscar Ferreira (UALG) and Jonathan Williams (UOP) SFRH/BD/28257/2006 Ancão Inlet evolution, a synthesis Seminário dos doutorandos, Julho 2010
Ancão Inlet evolution, a synthesis “Inlet relocation is a soft coastal management technique that, when applied to migrating inlets, involves the artificial opening of a new tidal inlet along the historic migration path of the inlet” houses
Ancão Inlet evolution, a synthesis Flood delta channel Sand bypassing Ebb delta Since its opening, the new Ancão Inlet has been monitored It was found to resemble the old inlet both in terms of its hydrodynamic characteristics and its morphology (Williams et al. 2003). According to Vila-Concejo et al. (2003; 2004), Ancão Inlet reached dynamic equilibrium one year after its opening (i.e. in July 1998) and has behaved like a natural inlet since that time.
