Argan oil: Does it live up to the hype and is more expensive better? Posted on May 7, 2013 by Stylishly Organic Argan oil is high in tocopherols (vitamin E). According to the Linus Pauling Institute, topical application of vitamin E is effective for protecting the skin against UV damage as well as combating and preventing inflammation. Furthermore, argan oil is also high in fatty acids such as linoleic and linolenic acids (Omega 6) which are proven to attenuate aging and regenerate human skin, diminishing expression lines, eliminating grooves and improving the appearance of scars as well as also playing a key role in the inflammatory response of the skin. So, on this basis alone, argan oil should indeed possess many of the qualities that people anecdotally claim it to have and should prove an excellent addition to any skincare regimen. Argan oil is not only beautiful from a skincare perspective but also from a humanitarian and environmental one as well. Argan oil is a traditional oil of Morocco where for centuries Berber women have used it for food and healing. The recent popularity and rise in prices has given these women a new source of income that has helped them become more independent and better provide for their families and the education of their children. From an environmental perspective, argan oil has helped protect the endangered argan tree from the encroachment of civilization. These trees prevent desertification and sustain a complex ecosystem. Fortunately, in 1998, UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) designated almost 10,000 square miles of argan forests in southwest Morocco a UNESCO biosphere reserve, helping ensure continual reforestation and production of oil.
When applied to the skin, pure Argan oil benefits prove to be both healing and anti-aging. The active natural ingredients in argan oil are impressive, and include… • Tocopherols• Squalene• Carotenes• Sterols• Phenolic antioxidants Benefits of Argan Oil for Internal and External Healing There are two grades of Argan oil: culinary and cosmetic. The culinary version tastes like a smokier sesame oil and is exceptionally good for your internal organs. The cosmetic grade offers outstanding benefits for the body’s largest organ, the skin. Pure Argan oil used internally has been shown to fight cancer, cardiovascular disease, and inflammatory disorders. When applied externally, it cures everything from scars to infections to split ends to stretch marks. Superfood, Supreme • Dr. Philip Steig, Ph.D., M.D., professor and chairman of the Department of Neurological Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College and Neurosurgeon-in-Chief at New York Presbyterian Hospital, said experts are hailing the benefits of Argan oil as the newest super food.
It contains healthier omega 3s than olive oil, more vitamin E than sweet almond oil, and myriad cancer-fighting antioxidants, as well. Scientific research suggests that culinary Argan oil can help to… • Lower cholesterol• Improve circulation• Stabilize blood sugar• Ease pain from rheumatism and arthritis• Strengthen the body’s immune system• Prevent various types of cancer• Reducing the body’s resistance to insulin, helping treat diabetes• Protecting the body from cardiovascular and inflammatory diseases Read more: http://undergroundhealthreporter.com/benefits-of-argan-oil-healing#ixzz2uTnluKDUealing#ixzz2uTnIlVL6

Aloe Vera Common Names: Aloe veras use can be traced back 6,000 years to early Egypt, where the plant was depicted on stone carvings. Known as the “plant of immortality,” aloe was presented as a burial gift to deceased pharaohs. Historically, aloe was used topically to heal wounds and for various skin conditions, and orally as a laxative. Today, in addition to these uses, aloe is used as a folk or traditional remedy for a variety of conditions, including diabetes, asthma, epilepsy, and osteoarthritis. It is also used topically for osteoarthritis, burns, sunburns, and psoriasis. Aloe vera gel can be found in hundreds of skin products, including lotions and sunblocks. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved aloe vera as a natural food flavoring.
Health Benefits of Lemon Essential Oil Health Benefits of Lemon Essential Oil: Although research on the health effects of aroma therapeutic use of lemon essential oil is fairly limited, there's some evidence that lemon essential oil may offer certain health benefits. Here's a look at some key findings from the available studies: 1) Alzheimer's Disease Lemon essential oil may be of some benefit to people with Alzheimer's disease, according to a study published in Psychogeriatrics in 2009. For the study, 28 older adults (including 17 people with Alzheimer's disease) used aromatherapy (including use of lemon, rosemary, lavender, and orange essential oils) for 28 days. Study results showed that aromatherapy led to a significant improvement in certain measures of cognitive function, especially among the Alzheimer's patients. 2) Anxiety Several preliminary studies suggest that lemon essential oil may help reduce anxiety and stress. For example, a 2004 study on rats determined that exposure to the odor of lemon essential oil helped reduce levels of corticosterone (a type of stress hormone). Published in Brain Research, the study also found that lemon essential oil may possess anxiety-reducing and pain-relieving properties. 3) Mood Preliminary research indicates that lemon essential oil may enhance mood. In a small study published in Psychoneuroendocrinology in 2008, for instance, researchers found that inhaling the aroma of lemon essential oil was more effective in improving mood than aromatherapy involving the use of lavender essential oil. The study involved 56 healthy men and women. • By Cathy Wong, ND • Updated July 12, 2013
4) Weight Loss • Lemon essential oil shows promise for the prevention of weight gain, according to a 2003 study published in Experimental Biology and Medicine. In tests on rats, scientists found that breathing in the scent of lemon and grapefruit essential oils altered nervous system activity in a way that may promote the breakdown of body fat. However, due to a lack of clinical trials testing the effects of lemon essential on fat breakdown, it's too soon to recommend lemon essential oil as a weight loss aid. Uses for Lemon Essential Oil Lemon essential oil is typically used to treat the following health problems: • anxiety • asthma • athlete's foot • depression • fatigue • insomnia • stress • varicose veins In addition, lemon essential oil is said to stimulate the immune system, protect against Alzheimer's disease, alleviate pain, and promote weight loss.
Health Benefits of Orange Essential Oil To date, research on the health effects of orange essential oil is fairly limited. However, some preliminary studies suggest that orange essential oil may offer certain health benefits. Here's a look at some findings from the available research: 1) Anxiety Breathing in the scent of orange essential oil may help alleviate anxiety, according to a small study published in Physiology & Behavior in 2000. For the study, 72 people (ages 22 to 57) were placed in one of two waiting rooms prior to undergoing a dental treatment: in the first waiting room, an electrical dispenser was used to diffuse the aroma of orange essential oil; in the second room, there was no ambient odor. Study results showed that participants exposed to the aroma of orange essential oil (especially females) had lower levels of anxiety and a more positive mood than those in the control group. In a more recent study (published in Progress in Neuro-Psychopharmacology & Biological Psychiatry in 2010), scientists found that exposure to the aroma of orange essential oil significantly reduced anxiety in rats during a maze-based experiment. 2) Food Poisoning A number of laboratory studies suggest that orange essential oil may possess antibacterial properties that could be useful in destroying bacteria known to cause food poisoning. For instance, a test-tube study published in the Journal of Food Science in 2008 determined that orange essential oil helped inhibit the effects of Salmonella. Since there is currently a lack of clinical trials testing the use of orange essential oil against foodborne pathogens, it's too soon to recommend orange essential oil for prevention or treatment of food poisoning.
Uses for Orange Essential Oil • According to aromatherapy practitioners, inhaling essential oil molecules (or absorbing essential oils through the skin) transmits messages to the limbic system (a brain region responsible for controlling emotions and influencing the nervous system). These messages are believed to affect biological factors such as heart rate, stress levels, blood pressure, breathing, and immune function. • Proponents claim that using orange essential oil in aromatherapy can help prevent the following health problems: • acne • anxiety • colds and flu • constipation • depression • inflammation • stress • In addition, orange essential oil is said to improve mood and promote detox.
Health Benefits of Jojoba What Should I Know About It? 1) Acne Jojoba oil may aid in the treatment of acne, according to a study published in the Swiss journal Research in Complementary Medicine in 2012. For the study, 194 people with acne, lesioned skin, or acne-prone skin applied a facial mask containing clay and jojoba oil two to three times a week for six weeks. Analyzing questionnaires and diaries submitted by the 133 participants who completed the study, researchers found that use of the facial masks led to a significant decrease in number of lesions and acne pustules. It should be noted that it's unknown whether the clay, jojoba oil, or a combination of the two substances was responsible for the healing effects of the facial mask used in the study. 2) Wounds Jojoba may promote wound-healing, suggests a preliminary study published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology in 2011. In laboratory experiments on human skin cells, the study's authors found that jojoba liquid wax helped speed up the closure of wounds. 3) Inflammation There's some evidence that jojoba may help reduce inflammation (a biological process thought to contribute to several skin conditions, including acne and eczema). For example, in a 2005 study published in Pharmacology Research, tests on rats revealed that topical application of liquid wax extracted from jojoba helped reduce several markers of inflammation. Uses for Jojoba Jojoba is touted as a natural remedy for the following problems: • acne • burns • hair loss • psoriasis • sunburn
