Articles of ConfederationGoverning document of the combined states after the Revolutionary War. Congress created plans for a new nation in 1777. They were created with the intent to restrict the power of the federal government.
Under the Articles of Confederation Congress could not tax or regulate trade. All actions of the Congress required a unanimous vote. This meant any state could effectively block any Congressional action.
