How to use each card • These items will be handed out on day one • Envelope for holding cards • Checkbook , Excel Sheet Checkbook, or Both • List of Required Bills • These cards must be randomly handed out or placed in a box for the student to choose (you cannot pick the cards they want) • Married/Single Card • Career Card • Chance Card • Students can view these cards and choose as many as they want • Want Card
Day 1 – Activity Summary • Dates: August 30 – September 5, 2009 • Envelopes • Checkbook • Married/Single Cards • Career Cards • List of Required Bills • Want Cards • Chance Cards
Your Envelope and Checkbook • You will be given an envelope • All Cards Must Be Kept In This Envelop (for all 5 days) • One envelope for each single person • One envelope for each married couple • Names must be written on the outside of each envelope along with the class period • You will be given a checkbook • If students are married only one checkbook can be used • Must be kept current with daily activities
Married/Single Cards • You will pick a Married/Single Card from a box • Cards are picked from a box randomly • Before going to the next step married couples must choose a partner • The partner you choose will be your partner for 5 days • If you are married you will have to share everything • Chance cards • Checkbook • Decision making for wants • Single people make their own decisions.
Career Card • Now that married couples have their partners each person must pick a career. • This card is picked from a box also. No one is to see the card before it is chosen. • Each card has a pay rate on it • Monthly means you are paid on the 1st of each month • Bimonthly means you are paid on the 1st and 15th of the month • Weekly means you are paid on Fridays of each week
Your Bills • Everyone is required to pay certain bills • Each household has the following bills to pay monthly • You will have to decide when the best dates to pay these bills according to you pay checks
Want Cards • Once Married/Single Students organize their checkbooks they can choose want cards • Look at each card and decide what you can afford to purchase • There is no limit to the amount of items purchased from the want cards • Each want card must be kept in the envelope and turned in at the end of day 5 • The card can only be used once • Keep in mind you do not know what the future may hold
Chance Cards • These card can bring you both good and bad luck • Each couple gets one card a day • Each single person gets one card a day • You will have 5 cards at the end of the activity • The card can only be used once • All cards must be kept in the envelope and turned in at the end of day 5 • These cards are picked from a box. You cannot choose the card you want
Day 2 – 4 Activity Summary • Each Day • Review Checkbook • Draw 1 Chance Card • Choose Want Cards – if funds are available • Dates for Transactions • Day 2 – September 6-12, 2009 • Day 3 – September 13-19, 2009 • Day 4 – September 20-26, 2009
Day 5 –Activity Summary • Day 5 – September 27-October 3, 2009 • Review Checkbook • Draw 1 Chance Card • Choose Want Cards – if funds are available • Balance Checkbook once more • Turn in the envelope with all cards used for the project • Turn in your balanced checkbook
