History of the Thriller Genre People have been “Thrilled” by films for over 100 years, possibly the first film to ever scare people while at the same time scare them was a short film called ‘Arrival of a train at La Ciotat’ made by the Lumiére Brothers, it was first publicised in 1895. He wanted to in his words “give the public good healthy, mental shake-ups.” His movies were the first to create real anticipation and suspense in the audience. The Genre became increasingly popular during the 50’s and the 60’s, encouraging directors to choose to make thriller movies during these periods.
History Continued After the 50’s there was less demand for thriller movies, during the 60’s and 70’s less thrillers were made. However the genre rose back up in the 80’s and has continued to be popular till the present day http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thriller_(genre)
