2. Methods • I did 12 closed questions, and I sent them out to 10 boys and 10 girls to try and keep it fair instead of a biased vote from 20 boys. I sent them out using Facebook; it worked very well for me so I would use it again. Facebook was useful to me because it is the easiest way to send it out, I would have sent it by email but not many of the people at my target audience age check there email. I had a very quick response from Facebook which I was pleased about so I could tally it up all at once. • I collected my data and then formed a tally chart, then after I analysed the results using pie charts. It was very helpful to me because now I know what people would prefer in the film. I noticed in my response before I tallied up my results a few patterns, like how only some girls picked romance as the genre but no boys picked romance they all picked comedy. That’s properly because romance is more of a girly genre because not many boys like romance films they like action and comedy. • The second piece of primary research was the focus groups we did. The people in the focus group we questioned were 14-17 years old. We recorded in a classroom with a teacher so people may not have wanted to say what they wanted to say. The focus group gave good answers to help our research. There were more girls than boys so the opinion may be biased. I found this research to be very helpful to me and will help me produce an excellent film.

(Http://www.Youtube.com/watch?v=LJSUrBdqx20) • 6) A Published text Vanity Fair 2005 dangerous talents with James Dean. • The following qualitative researches I have used are: • The internet, Media text and published texts in secondary research methods qualitative research that I found useful was the interview with Lindsey Lohan on T4 we she told Steve Jones she was sporty, artsy and a cheerleader. She was telling him how she was in a popular social group in school and he was implying how he was a geek. • Another interview was about Marlon Bando played by James Dean in rebel without a cause. He was speaking about the core of his character when he played Marlon Bando. He spoke about how used his own securities to fall back on. • During the interview on Lindsey Lohan, Steve Jones’s behaviour with Lindsey was very flirty and they we both quiet relaxed compared to James Dean’s interview that was in the middle of filming on the set. James Deans interview was rushed and he didn’t have time to think about his interview and how he could respond to the question, unlike Lindsey Lohan who flew over to promote her new film and had been doing lots of interview an knew how to answer the questions.

4. Techniques • I have used the following techniques and this is what I have found: • • The school library (Vanity Fair 2005 dangerous talents by Sam Kashner); • • Using the internet (including website links and your findings) I used http://www.imdb.com to find out about the actors and about some different teen films. I also used www.wikipedia.org/ to look at the teen film story lines and what people thought of them. Another website I found to be very useful was www.youtube.com, with this website I looked at different interview with some of the people involved with the making of Mean girl and Rebel without a cause. This helped me to understand what the actors thought about their character and how the film affected them. • • Interviews (I took part in focus group on Wednesday 5th October 2011, were I was able to ask specific questions to my target audience. I have observed a professional online interview (Http://www.Youtube.com/watch?v=5mdq_OZSLiU Http://www.Youtube.com/watch?v=LJSUrBdqx20) I listened to them on Thursday 6th October 2011. • • I have included a sample of my questionnaire. My questions were closed so they couldn’t give me there full opinions but they told me what they would rather see in the film. The results were mostly what I predicted and they were not biased result (e.g. there not all boys opinions), so I tried to keep it fair. • • I have included the recording of the focus group. I asked ‘Do you want the main character to be a boy or girl? The reply I got was girl, but the people who gave me the answer was a girl so she would prefer a girl because she can try and relate to her.

6. Collate • I have sorted through my work and taken a print screen of my work and it’s organized by its file name.

7. Store • I securely stored my research methods by making sure I saved them on my school system, the school system is backed up every night and I can also access this through the school portal. I saved my work in to 1 file named Unit 1 Research for Production. • My teacher securely stored all online interviews. I got my questionnaire was sent through Facebook so it’s saved to my Facebook account. My questionnaire was store on my home computer and on memory stick, which is in a safe place a home. Then once I tallied them all up I sent them to school and saved my results on the school system.

8. Evaluation • I conducted my research step by step because I wanted to make sure that I covered primary, secondary and qualitative research techniques to a have a decent amount of research. This was necessary because I wanted to make sure I could meet the needs of my target audience and produce a good and enjoyable film that my target audience would really like and understand. • I have found for my research methods: • Primary research- I found out that my target audience wanted music in the film and there to be a fight in the film as well. • Secondary research-I found watch Rebel without a cause very interesting and seeing how a teen film works. • Qualitative- I found the information from the professionals very helpful, I found the James Dean interview especially helpful when he told the report how he uses his own securities to fall back on when acting. • I found the questionnaire from the primary research the most helpful because I got the most information from it. • I found the secondary research the least helpful because I got the least information from it. • Nothing really surprised me in my findings because it was just like what I predicted it to be like. • Before I started my research I thought I was going to be really easy to make a teen film, I thought you wouldn’t need to research this much and just start making my film. • Now I have collect all this information I will use it in the making of my film to produce the best possible film for my target audience. I also have learned that I have to do lots of research and can’t just start making a film.

9. Using research methods and techniques to analysis and compare two existing teen films • I found it useful comparing the two teen films because I could see some of the conventions you need to be in a teen film to make it successful. • I learnt that there are certain things you need to put in to a teen film to make it successful and appeal to the teenage audience. • I will definitely use teenagers. I will also use a school as the setting, I will try and use violence like a fight and maybe have social groups because having social group worked well in Mean girls (2004), so I hope it will work for my film. I will try and add in non diegetic music.

10. Using research methods and techniques to analysis and compare two existing teen films • There will properly be jocks and geeks because this is a typical scenario for teen films. • I will most likely have a geek trying to get with a popular girl but the geek will have a fight with a jock and he wins. This is because I only have about 6 minutes to film it and using this plot I can have action and romance.
