Captain James Cook Elizabeth Cook gave birth to James Cook on the 27thNovember 1728, he had seven siblings. Nobody really knows who his father is in fact nobody even has information of him having a father.
What made him want to explore and discover other places? When he started • He was born in Marton, Yorkshire. He did basic schooling in the village. • He was sent to work in a nearby fishing village called Staithes. While he worked there he developed a love and fascination of the sea. • In July 1746, at the age of 17 James Cook became an apprentice to the Walker family in Whitby. This is where he learnt most of his sailsmanship, and sailing ships. He worked very hard and made his first voyage on one of the Whitby ships the “Free-Love”. With James’s Expertise at this kind of ship it would eventually help him through his three voyages of the world. With great education he left nine-years later James Cook left his ship and enlisted in the Royal navy. James Cook rose up to rank to command his own ship, this was unlikely for an enlisted sailor in the royal navy. But due to James Cook’s experience in Whitby helped him. Later on when he was in the Royal Navy he was assigned to the lead a mission to the Pacific to confirm the eclipse of the Sun(when Venus would block the Sun).
Adventure’s and achievements he made. • He traveled around the border of New-Zealand. • He made first British contact with the east-coastline of Australia. • He sailed and visited almost every island in the pacific. • He traveled uncharted parts of the map. • He traveled to Niue Later on in his life he would become an explorer, navigator and cartographer, and a very famous man after his life. He made most of his adventure’s on the ship the Endeavour. One of the reasons why I think that James Cook wanted to become an adventurer is because he grew up in a fishing village which I think told stories of adventurers or possibly myths and tales which might have made James curious.
What was Captain Cooks last adventure? • When I was about 7 years old, I was told that Captain James Cook was killed by cannibals in Hawaii. • It turns out that he was killed by the natives of Hawaii on his third voyage. It was all because of a feud. Nobody knows how it started. • The real answer: when Captain Cook went on his third and last voyage they ended up resupplying in Hawaii. The natives believed him to be a god. When he left Hawaii not soon after he ended up back in Hawaii. The chief greeted him back as a god again. While their visit one of their boats was stolen for the iron and was burnt and melted. In the process they killed two of the watchers. Captain Cook needed the boat to make the voyage so he had made a plan to take the chief hostage so the natives would give back the boat not knowing that they had already burnt it. The plan was to get the chief to come along with Cook on the voyage, when the chiefs wife pleaded for him not to go that’s when all the commotion started. A crew member shot a musket and violence started, Captain James Cook was hit is the head straight away, he eventually bled to death. • The reason why I think that he is an adventurer is because of all his achievements and that risk he took to map the pacific ocean. Also because if he wouldn’t have discovered any of the islands nobody would have known about them. • By Tahlequah Hatu Tiakia. • Source of information. • http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_cook, Htt://www.cptcool.com/cookbio.html
