Main issues - erosion, flooding and angry citizens Citizensfearnewflooding
Riseberga creek - Sustainable urban drainage • Reduce hydraulic load to recipient • Open stormwater drainage • Slow process • Attractive blue-green space Fosie industrial area
Transition towards a sustainable urban drainage Sustainable urban drainage Traditional urban drainage Quality Quantity Quantity Amenity
Sustainable stormwater management Fosie industrial area, Malmö
Ecological oasis in an industrial area • Damping stormwater runoff • Create an urban woodland marsh • Recreation • Trails for horseback riding • Multifunctional use of the urban green space • Biological diversity • EU-financing 50% • Investments costs: € 620 000 • Calculated maintenance cost: € 11 000/yr Sustainable stormwater management Fosie industrial area, Malmö

Key factors and challenges • Integrated planning • Cooperation • Open-mindness • Landuse • Patience • Handling input from residents and stakeholders • Agreements Obstacles and objections • Muchspaceneeded • Safety • Maintenance
What to expect in the future – Climate scenarios for SW Sweden • Temperature: annual mean temperature will increase with 2,5 – 3,0 °C until 2050 • Winter: ~ +4 °C • Summer: ~ +2 °C • Precipitation: annual precipitation will increase with15-20 % • Winter: ~ +40 % • Summer: ~ -10 %
Some possible consequenses for the Riseberga Creek in a future climate • Change of hydrological regime – more discharge and increased flood frequency during winter - less discharge and decreased flood frequency during summer, but maybe an increased precipitation intensity during summer could lead to more severe flooding • Changed conditions for aquatic habitats – warmer water and (even) larger fluctuations in discharge, water velocity and water depth in 2050 than today • Decreased water quality – warmer water and higher ground water levels that might lead to more saturated surface runoff and more erosion and sediment transport
