Resurrection Is Essential to Faith • 1 Cor. 15:17-19: • If Christ is not risen • You are all still in your sins. • Those who have fallen asleep have perished. • We are of all men most pitiable. • Therefore, faith in the resurrection of Christ is essential. • But why? What is its significance?
Christ and His Resurrection • John 16:7: If He did not go away the Helper would not come. • John 14:2, 3: He went to prepare a place for us. • Christ would not be able to accomplish these things had He not be resurrected and ascended. • But there is more!
The Role of Christ Resurrected • To understand Christ’s role after resurrection, must understand O.T. Sacrifices. • Priests offer continual sacrifices: daily, weekly, monthly, yearly (Heb. 9:6). • Once a year, high priest entered the Holy of Holies—the presence of God: Heb. 9:7

Sacrifices. • Priests offer continual sacrifices: daily, weekly, monthly, yearly. • Once a year, high priest entered the Holy of Holies—the presence of God: Heb. 9:6-7 • Lev. 16:29-34: Day of atonement. • He would atone for the sins of all the people. • However!
The Role of Christ Resurrected Reality • The O.T. tabernacle was only a shadow of the real thing! Heb. 10:1. • Christ is the real thing: the true High Priest!! Heb. 9:23-24 • Heaven is the true Holy of Holies Shadow
Hebrews 9:23-24 23 Therefore it was necessary that the copies of the things in the heavens should be purified with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. 24 For Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us; • When? • How?
Christ Resurrected to High Priest • Heb. 10:12: Offered one sacrifice for sins forever • Heb. 10:10: We have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ • Heb. 9:14: Christ offered Himself without spot to God. • When Christ do all of this? • At His crucifixion He offered Himself • At His resurrection and ascension He took that atoning blood into the presence of God for us. • He went into the True Holy of Holies to make atonement for men (1 John 2:1-2)
Conclusion • Without the death of Christ there would have never been a sacrifice to remove sins. • Without the resurrection of Christ there would not have been a High Priest able to atone for sins. • But in Christ we have Both—therefore, from His resurrection His role in the Godhead is High Priest. • But there is more…
