  2. HISTORY OF PFUR • Peoples’ Friendship University (PFU) was founded on 5 February, 1960 by the USSR Government. On 22 February, 1961, the University was named after Patrice Lumumba — one of the symbols of the African peoples’ fight for independence.

  3. HISTORY OF PFUR • The first 288 students from 47 countries graduated in 1965. • The University’s name was changed to the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia on 5 February, 1992 by the RF Government, which is considered the University’s founder.

Rector of Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia • VLADIMIR MIKHAILOVICH FILIPPOV • In 1958-1968, studied at Uryupinsk secondary school #2, where from the 4th form was an A-student, went in for sports and was a leader of various school organizations. Finished school with the silver medal. • September 1998- March 2004 – Minister of education of the Russian Federation in four RF Cabinets. • September 1998- March 2004 – Minister of education of the Russian Federation in four RF Cabinets. • Since March 2005 – till present time – PFUR Rector (elected in 2005, re-elected in 2010). • Author of more than 240 scientific and methodological publications including 30 monographs, two of which have been translated and published in the USA by the American Mathematical Society. • Speaks French and English.

  5. PFUR Mission • Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia is an international classic university. It is charged with the following mission: • Uniting people of different nations, races and religions by means of knowledge; • Training qualified specialists in various spheres of activity; • Forming personalities, who love their native countries and are friends of Russia; who are familiar with the achievements of world culture; who boost the ideals of humanism, democracy and peoples’ friendship; • Training young people, capable of working in any country of the world and using their creativity in the context of interconnection of civilizations and diversity of modern society.

PFUR Today • Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia is an international classical university holding a top 5 position in domestic rankings for over 20 years. • 10 faculties and 7 institutes • 45 undergraduate programs, • 9 specialist programs and 100 • Graduate programs • Over 28,000 students from 146 countries worldwide • Over 3,000 postgraduate students, trainees and • residents • Over 90 double degree programs with universities worldwide

The Russian legislation provides that foreign citizens and compatriots living abroad can get education in Russia. • The Russian Government and the Moscow Government annually award scholarships to the most talented children from “near” and “far” abroad in order to provide them an opportunity to study in public higher education institutions of Russia. http://en.russia.edu.ru

  14. Campus of PFUR • PFUR campus, laureate of the Moscow Mayor’s prize “The best campus of Moscow” (2009) and Ministry of Education of Russia pride, is a unique place you cannot find anywhere else in Russia. • There are 12 buildings of student hostels accommodating 8.000 students.
