Mission • To find simple, practical ways for the Rotarians of District 6890 to use the Internet to advance the Object of Rotary. • Give every club in the District the opportunity to have its own club website.
Website Current Model – Anyone with content to publish must first go through the Webmaster, which creates an unnecessary bottleneck. Everyone else Webmaster
Website Recommended Model – The website is partitioned so that different people can maintain different parts of the website directly – without the Webmaster. The website must be easy to use, practical, and … fun! Teamwork
Enhanced Security • Part of our website will be public… • Another – new section – will be private. • Privacy will be protected by personalized user IDs and passwords. • Access will be restricted to Rotarians of District 6890 and authorized guests.
New Features • District directory. Each member can easily update his or her own contact information and decide how much – or how little – is published to the district. • Tools to help each club in the district set up its own website. • Private workspaces to help committees manage tasks, plan events, and publish information on the district website…including calendars that work with Outlook. • Ability for clubs to submit attendance data online, discussion forums, etc.
This slide was printed on the poster in the lobby. New Features Going forward, our district website will be split into two parts: • A public website which can be viewed by anyone on the Internet. • A private website accessible only by the district’s club officers and members. The private website is new. Access will be restricted to Rotarians with a valid user ID and password. Features include: • District directory. Each member can easily update his or her own contact information and decide how much – or how little – is published to the district. • Tools to help each club in the district set up its own website. • Calendars for the district and committees that work with Microsoft Outlook. • Private workspaces to help committees manage tasks, plan events, and publish information on the district website. • Ability for clubs to submit attendance data online, discussion forums, etc.
Vendor Review • Held discussions with six local internet services vendors; met in person with three. • Two have agreed to donate services. A third agreed to offer services at a 50% discount.
Summary • We have found simple, practical ways to improve our website and ... • Give every club in the District the opportunity to have its own club website. • We need volunteers (e.g., computer programmers, writers) • Check each week for new features.
