Last Time Looked at and agreed on definitions: Asynchronous learning Synchronous learning Supplemental program Full time program And, then “Blended Learning”
Ca Dept of Ed • Teacher-led education that takes place over the Internet, with the teacher and student separated geographically • Online education can be fully online (either synchronous or asynchronous) or blended (online instruction combined with classroom-based instruction). Online Learning Program iNacol An online learning program is an organized offering of courses delivered primarily over the Internet.
CA Dept of Ed • a combination of online delivery and supervised face-to-face sessions at a physical location away from home. In blended learning, students have some control over the time, place, path, and/or pace of the online portion of their education Blended Learning iNacol any time a student learns at least in part at a supervised brick-and-mortar location away from home and at least in part through online delivery with some element of student control over time, place, path, and/or pace Synonym: Hybrid Learning.
But, it is more than Simply where the student is, it is about: Where the student is and what the student is doing Where the teacher is and what the teacher is doing Where the contentis and what the contentis So, consider the above and consider: Textbook enhanced teaching and learning Technology enhanced teaching and learning Web/online enhanced teaching and learning Blended teaching and learning Online teaching and learning
What is the student doing? • Sitting in a desk in a classroom • Writing on paper • Listening to teacher • Talking with peers • What is the teacher doing? • Standing in front of the classroom • Directing Learning • Group discussions Textbook Enhanced • What is the content? • Textbooks • Supplemental materials • Teacher created materials • Where is the content? • On paper • In the classroom • In a school library

Is this blended or online teaching and learning? • Teacher has a computer and uses it for email and doing attendance at school, but no other uses • Teacher posts assignments online and students turn in their work via an online dropbox (in a system like Moodle or Blackboard) • Students watch videos online from home that helps them complete a homework assignment • Teacher uses a digital white board and clickers for a lesson • Teacher has different student groups use the 6 computers in the back of the room each day on a math program that helps their math skills. The math program individualizes so that each student is working on content at their level.
Is this blended or online teaching and learning? ?? And what are some other scenarios to clarify??
