•Phil: HMMMMM a Lady Bug. I want to play with it! •Lil: Hey I saw it first! •Phil: No you did not Lillian. It’s mine! •Lil: No it’s mine! •Tommy: Hey Chuckie… Why does it rain? Rain is no fun unless we are running through puddles •Chuckie: Hey Tommy you know what… I have no clue why it rains. The rain scares me! •Tommy: HEY! There’s Phil and Lil! Maybe they can help us!
• Stu: Hey guys what is all the commotion out here? I’ve been working on this new invention all day! Actually it’s pretty neat its… • Tommy: DAD! We need your help! • Stu: What is it son? As you all know I am an inventor so I am pretty smart. • Tommy: We want to know where rain comes from, but we just can’t figure it out! • Tommy: Guys! We have a problem bigger than a Lady Bug! • Lil: I don’t know about that. This Lady Bug is so pretty. • Phil: Stop it Lillian it is mine! • Chuckie: Guys!! Listen to Tommy • Tommy: do you guys know where rain comes from? • Phil: Umm.. They sky? • Lil: No! It comes from the Clouds!
•Stu: Hold on kids. You are both right, but there is more. I think there is some sort of cycle with the rain, it’s on the tip of my tongue….hmm. Maybe you should ask your mother. •Tommy: Great idea dad! Let’s ask mom! •Phil: I think it comes from the sky. •Lil: No Phillip, it comes from the clouds •Phil: No it doesn’t!
Tommy: Hey mom, I have a question for you. • •Didi: And what might that be honey? I’ve been listening to your father talk about some invention all day long. • Tommy: Okay, so me and Chuckie were talking and we want to know why it rains. Phil and Lil think they know but they keep on arguing. Dad doesn’t know anything • Didi: Well that’s a shocker. • Tommy: I know! And I just want to know! Dad said something about a Water Cycle? Do you know anything about that? • Didi: Oh, the water cycle. I know a bit about that. I know that it is made up of 4 stages. • Tommy: 4 stages? Really? Just for rain? • Didi: Yes 4 stages, but I cannot exactly remember what they are. This would be an excellent question for Dr. Lipschitz. He’s on his way over now. • Tommy: Thanks mom!
• (Knock, Knock, Knock) • Tommy: Hey! That must be Dr. Lipschitz! • Chuckie: Finally, We will figure this problem out Tommy! • Chuckie: Did you figure it out Tommy? • Tommy: No, but Dr. Lipschitz is coming and he will know. So far I have learned there is a Water Cycle, and it has 4 stages. • Chuckie: Really??? • Tommy: Yes. Dr. Lipschitz will know the steps and teach us! • Chuckie: Perfect! Do you want to play with Reptar until he comes? • Tommy: Sure, Let’s do it!
Tommy: Yes! We want to know what this 4 stage water cycle is! • Dr. Lipschitz: Tommy, I hear you and you’re friend Chuckie need my help with something?
Dr. Lipschitz: Oh the water cycle… I know about that. You are right about there being 4 stages. They are evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and run-off. Evaporation is when the water turns into a gas or vapor and travels upward creating clouds. Next stage is condensation, and that is when the gaseous water vapor turns into a liquid which leads to the next stage, precipitation. Precipitation is when the rain falls down from the clouds in the sky. After that is run-off when the rain travels downhill into a watershed. And then the process continues.
Tommy: Oh wow really? That is a neat process. Hey Chuckie! You hear that? Now we know! • Chuckie: Yay!!!! Thank you Dr. Lipschitz! • Dr. Lipschitz: You’re welcome boys! Glad I could help! Tell your friends of your new discovery!
