Unit 1 OCR Nationals – LEVEL 3 AO1 (The Report)
New Solutions for Business Ltd • We are considering expanding our business and as a result of this we will need to invest in developing new business communication systems. We are also thinking about developing an e-commerce based operation. We would like you to produce a report for us that covers the following: • types of business communication system • the benefits and drawbacks of these systems • how the growth of e-commerce, e-business and e-marketing has been influenced by these systems
Types of business communication system • Research three types of business communication system: • email • networks: Internet (including WWW) and intranets • conferencing: video-, tele-, web-, instant messaging.
And the structure? Well, for each of the 3, I’d use the following structure: • Describe the system • What is it? • How is it used? • Who uses it? • Benefits & drawbacks of the system • Give at least a couple of examples of each
And then..? • Well if you’re looking to Pass, that’s IT. • For Merit, and Distinction, things are a little more challenging...
Merit • “The role of communication technology in the growth of e-commerce...”
Merit The Definition of Ecommerce is just what it seems like, E(Electronic) + Commerce... Ecommerce. Any form of commerce(business transactions) which are based on an electronic medium. (www.designexplosion.com) E-Commerce Ecommerce Definition: ecommerce, e-commerce, or electronic commerce is the conduct of a financial transactions by electronic means. With the huge success of commerce on the Internet, ecommerce usually refers to shopping at online stores on the World Wide Web, also known as ecommerce Web sites. Ecommerce can be business to business (B to B) or business to consumer (B to C). (www.straight-on.com)
Merit • E-commerce • Start with definitions of the terms involved AND provide examples of each to corroborate that you understand what you're talking about. • Look at the process of buying (and selling) on the Web: how do we communicate with the seller/buyer? How has this whole process (of buying and selling) been affected by changes in the way in which we communicate? You should cover MORE THAN just eBay and Amazon; though I think you’re going to have to at least mention each of them.
Merit • How do large corporations communicate across national and geographical boundaries (e.g. HSBC and Tesco, the NHS and each branch of Amazon)? How has this been facilitated by the growth in the range and quality of communication technology. • How are companies using the new communication technology to get their message out there about their product? Look at spam advertising, banners on websites, email lists and subscription emails. Consider the impact of pop-ups.
Distinction • “The role of communication technology in the growth of e-commerce, e-business and e-marketing.”
Distinction A starting point is to define eBusiness as "interaction with business partners, where the interaction is enabled by information technology". (www.ecommerceprogram.com) E-Business Business (electronic business) is, in its simplest form, the conduct of business on the Internet. It is a more generic term than eCommerce because it refers to not only buying and selling but also servicing customers and collaborating with business partners. (www.computerecommerce.com)
Distinction • Start again with definitions. • Then look at how each method of communication fits within that model (e.g. how e-business benefits from intranets, from email, from the opportunities to use forms of conferencing. • Then suggest examples – realistic if not real world, of how these communication methods aid e-business
Distinction A more comprehensive, practical definition is the one formulated by specialists of CISCO company: eMarketing is a generic term utilized for a wide range of activities - advertising, customer communications, branding, fidelity programs etc. - using the internet. (www.articleblast.com) E-Marketing E-marketing is the complete process of rightly positioning your online business on the Web, and includes the customized preparation of e-marketing services and strategies targeted at the special needs of online businesses. (www.myclicks.us)
Distinction • Then do the same for eMarketing! • Start again with definitions. • Then look at how each method of communication fits within that model (e.g. how e-marketingbenefits from intranets, from email, from the opportunities to use forms of conferencing. • Then suggest examples – realistic if not real world, of how these communication methods aid e-marketing
