The 13 ½ Lives of Captain Bluebear By: Walter Moers Presentation By: Amanda Bachand
About the Book The 13 ½ Lives of Captain Bluebear is a zany, adventure filled story that will keep you either on the edge of your seat or laughing, two aspects that really make this book enjoyable. This story is about the different situations that the main character, Bluebear, finds himself in, how he reacts to his predicament, and the result of the decision he makes. This story is filled will fun, and has pictures too, which makes it a book that anyone would like to read!
My Response • As bringing was food is strongly encouraged, I have done so, though people may be vary surprised as to what I brought in to share. In the story, Bluebear finds himself traveling with the nomadic Muggs, a group of social outcasts that fit in perfectly with each other. During something that happens in the story (trying not to give anything away), Bluebear finds himself settling down into a village with the Muggs, and meets someone that always makes mashed potatoes. Bluebear then, after meeting this being, always eats the mashed potatoes that he makes. The only difference between the story food and the real food is that the story food doesn’t fill your stomach, though my food will.
My Exploration • Because my response was strange, I’ll try to make my exploration as normal as possible. For my exploration, I have taken what the character in the story knows about his Atlantis and researched what people believe about our Atlantis, because I am currently at a point in the story where Bluebear finds himself living in Atlantis.
Zamonian Atlantis • Capital and seat of government of the continent of Zamonia. Classified as a megalopolis, Atlantis is divided into five administrative districts, each of which really constitutes a kingdom in its own right: Naltatis, Sitnalta, Titalans, Tatilans, and Lisnatat. These urban districts are. In their own turn, divided into sub districts…… • (It goes on and on and on for a really long time about unimportant details that you don’t need to know to understand the story)
The Atlantis We Know • Well, honestly, we don’t actually know that much, considering we believe the island sunk but don’t know exactly where. Some do think that Atlantis was a huge continent located in the Atlantic ocean, from where it probably derived its name. Man kind today does not know much about this lost continent, and may continue to be left in the dark for a long, long, time…
