Modernized GPS Satellites • Modernized GPS satellites are now in orbit, and all of these satellites are capable of transmitting L2C signals (civilian signals on the satellite L2 carrier). These satellites represent a significant first step in the GPS Modernization program planned by the United States. • With the new L2C signals, your L2 measurements can be more robust, making your GPS observations even more reliable. All you need to benefit from the stronger signals is a GPS receiver capable of tracking them.
The new L5 carrier signal • Now that the first L2C satellites are in orbit, it's possible to look ahead to the next modernized GPS signal on the horizon, the entirely new L5 carrier. The U.S. Air Force has scheduled the launch of the modernized GPS Block IIR satellite that will host an L5 demonstration payload for June 30 of this year. • The arrival of L5 will make the number of GPS carriers total three. L5 will provide a higher power level than the other carriers. As a result, acquiring and tracking signals will be easier.
Trimble R8 GNSS • The Trimble® R8 GNSS System is a multi-channel, multi-frequency GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) receiver, antenna, and data-link radio combined in one compact unit. • It contains Trimble R-Track technology to support all GPS signals, including the new L2C signal and the coming L5 signal of GPS Modernization. • It also supports GLONASS.
