MPH program structure at YSMU • established in 2011 within the frameworks of the “Masters Programmes in Public Health and Social Services” Tempus programme (2010-2013). • is arranged in three teaching groups: • PUBLIC HEALTH AND HEALTHCARE • Biostatistics, database maangement • Public health • Planning & Implementation of Health Programs • Monitoring and Evaluation of Health Programs • Quantitative and Qualitative Research methods • Social and Behavioral Sciences in Public Health • Management and Marketing in Healthcare • ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & EPIDEMIOLOGY • APPLIED COURSES • Social work, informatics, bioethics, English, etc.
Assessment at YSMU • Before 2006 – only oral exams. • After 2006 – only written MCQ exams. MCQs: • In the middle of the module/course (50 questions). • At the end of each module/course (100 questions). • 3 types of questions: • Single best correct answer. • Single wrong answer. • Combined answers (“key”).
Knowledge and application of software • MS Access • Survey – e.g. nutrition, dietary habits in winter • Creation of a database and making queries. • SPSS • Module on Quantitative Research Methods • Run a survey, create a database and work with research data
Presentations (Problem Solving module) Examples (students of 2013) • Road traffic incidents (statistics, reasons, suggestions) • Strategy for breast-feeding only for children under 6-months • Sexual education in adolescents • Decreasing neonatal mortality
Master Thesis • During the last semester • Both proposal and the thesis are graded • Research topic on students’ choice • Smoking among YSMU senior year students • Incidence and structural pattern of cancer in rural population of Ararat valley • Level of vaccination in YSMU out-patient clinics • Hepatitis B antigen level among pregnant women in Yerevan
