Sources of food animals plants
Plants produce their own food by the process of photosynthesis
Edible parts of plants Roots of some plants are edible because they store the food prepared by the plant Eg: carrot, beet root, radish, turnip, sweet potato
Stems of certain plants are edible. Eg: Sugar cane, potato, ginger, lotus, onion, garlic , celery, asparagus etc
Leaves of certain plants are used as vegetables. Eg- spinach, cabbage, lettuce etc Coriander and mint leaves are used for garnishing as well as to add flavour to food.
Flowers of certain plants are edible Eg- banana, pumpkin, drum stick, broccoli, cauliflower etc
The edible fruits of plants are used as vegetables and fruits Eg- drum stick, papaya, tomato ,chilli, pumpkin etc
