    2. 2 Objectives After completing the material in this chapter, the student should be able to: Explain the theory of gas heating. Explain the operation of the gas furnace. List several types of ignition systems used on gas furnaces. Explain the benefits and restriction of each ignition type. Install a gas furnace.

    3. 3 Objectives After completing the material in this chapter, the student should be able to: Install piping used to carry gas to the furnace. Install vent piping to carry by-products of combustion away from the furnace. Start up the gas furnace. Test for proper combustion in the gas furnace. Troubleshoot problems with the gas furnace.

    4. 4 Combustion Three things are needed for combustion to occur: Oxygen Fuel Heat The removal of any of these three will stop combustion. Complete or incomplete combustion can result.

    5. 5 Combustion Fuel, ignition, and oxygen are required for combustion.
