1. Welcome, warm up and introduction • Quick group warm up. • Go around in a circle and share name and a goal that was set this year or in previous years, identify if the goal was achieved and share one tool used to achieve it.

2) DEFINE GOAL • What is a goal? • “A goal is a clearly defined, constructive statement of a desired direction or activity stated in broad, general terms” • “An observable and measurableend result having one or moreobjectives to be achieved within a more or less fixed timeframe”

I approach everything step by step....I had always set short-term goals. As I look back, each one of the steps or successes led to the next one. When I got cut from the varsity team as a sophomore in high school, I learned something. I knew I never wanted to feel that bad again....So I set a goal of becoming a starter on the varsity. That’s what I focused on all summer. When I worked on my game, that’s what I thought about. When it happened, I set another goal, a reasonable, manageable goal that I could realistically achieve if I worked hard enough....I guess I approached it with the end in mind. I knew exactly where I wanted to go, and I focused on getting there. As I reached those goals, they built on one another. I gained a little confidence every time I came through.
...If [your goal is to become a doctor]...and you’re getting Cs in biology then the first thing you have to do is get Bs in biology and then As. You have to perfect the first step and then move on to chemistry or physics.Take those small steps. Otherwise you’re opening yourself up to all kinds of frustration. Where would your confidence come from if the only measure of success was becoming a doctor? If you tried as hard as you could and didn’t become a doctor, would that mean your whole life was a failure? Of course not. All those steps are like pieces of a puzzle. They all come together to form a picture....Not everyone is going to be the greatest....But you can still be considered a success....Step by step, I cant see any other way of accomplishing anything.

4) STEPS TO REACHING GOALS • Go around in a circle and read out loud one point listed below • 1. Set one big goal and make a realistic time frame for achieving it. Document: If it’s not documented, it’s not going to happen. Most leaders learn quickly (often the hard way,) if it isn’t documented it didn’t happen. Goal setting is similar, it must be documented. The act of writing your goal down creates a sense of commitment and also allows you to read it.
2. Determine why is the goal important to you? Think about what benefits the goal offers you. What rewards are associated with reaching this goal? Do you want those rewards? If not, you are not going to stay committed to reaching the goal. The bigger the why, the greater chance of success. • 3. Break the large goal down into a series of smaller goals or tasks, which you will reach, in shorter periods of time. • 4. Prioritize these tasks. Which are the most important to accomplish first? In what sequence should they be reached?
5. Celebrate or reward yourself when task have been completed. • 6. Always keep sight of your goal and DO NOT PROCRASTINATE. • 7. Evaluate your goals to make sure they are SMART. • 8. Get help if needed and share your goal with someone who can keep you accountable • 9. Write down foreseeable obstacles and possible solutions to them. • 10. Read over you goal statements regularly. Reading your goal gives your mind more confidence that achieving it is possible.
11. Record your progress regularly. • 12. Re-evaluate and re-focus your goals when necessary. • 13. Make goal setting a regular part of your life. Much like a successful diet, goal setting works best when it becomes part of the fabric of your life. The more a part of your life it is, the easier it becomes and the greater your success.
