WE ARE LISTENINGWE ARE ASKING FOR YOUR HELP AND INPUT SUPPORTING COMMENTS OPPOSING COMMENTS Ballot question wording was misunderstood. (TABOR) Need for more community outreach and information. More meetings outside of the district walls The voter approach could have been different. • Putting students first • Thoughtful approach to taxpayers by not increasing the current mills. • Being proactive and planning ahead without modular units. • We selected a structure that was low in maintenance, extremely cost effective, and quick to construct. By addressing any concerns we would like to move forward and get this MLO passed
COMPARIBLE MILL LEVIES • We have compared our current certified mill levy with our neighboring districts of Strasburg, Adams 14, Denver, Brighton, Cherry Creek, Littleton, Mapleton, Westminster, Adams 12 and Aurora Public Schools. • BSD29J has the lowest “Total Program Mills” and “Total Mill Levy” • BSD29J is the 4th lowest in “Bond Redemption Mills” at 9.971 • BSD29J is the ONLY district currently without “Voter Approved Override Mills” • BSD29J reduced by (1) bond redemption mill in 2012. There has been no changes other than that since 2006.
WHY DID WE BUILD Eminent Growth Cost Day Treatment Facility
EMINENT STUDENT GROWTH • With explosive growth on the horizon, our contracted master facility planners (Wold Architects and The Denny Hill Group) estimate close to 14,000 new students will impact our school district over the next 10 to 15+ years.

BUILDING COSTS • Cost of a traditional brick and mortar building: $425 per sq. ft. X 25,000 sq. ft. = $10,625,000 • Cost of “OUR” building: $280 per sq. ft. X 25,000 sq. ft.= $7,000,000 • Savings = $3,625,000. • This structure was built to be efficient, low maintenance and practical. No frills. • Building will house 500 students @ 25 to a class. • BSD29J locked in a low interest rate that has increased since. • In our attempt to be frugal and prudent with taxpayer’s dollars, we built a new building to benefit our students and community with no additional mill increase requested.
Bennett Creative Learning Center • Currently our day treatment students travel up to 1.5 hours one way to receive required services. With our new facility we will keep our students off the road and in our schools where they belong. • The exorbitant costs of day treatment totals $462,000. • We estimate our program costs to be $328,000 which is a savings of $134,000. • I-70 corridor districts have expressed great interest in our day treatment facility which in turn will increase our revenues • This will be housed in the Bennett Middle School
General Fund Monies Allocated.. Where will the funds go after a successful MLO? • Certified and support staff recruitment and retention. • Enhancing offerings such as more CTE programs in the secondary. • Enrichment programs and staffing needs • Capital Reserve items- Parking lots, buses, security and technology upgrades, etc. This is just a few items where the funding could be used.
