Scheduling. As the manager, one of your main duties is to staff your area of responsibility To do this, a manager must: Understand what jobs need to be done Know which employees are able to perform and accomplish these duties.

As the manager, one of your main duties is to staff your area of responsibility • To do this, a manager must: • Understand what jobs need to be done • Know which employees are able to perform and accomplish these duties
Scheduling is often a challenging task…much like a puzzle that they must put together • Factors such as: • Vacation • Sickness • Booked times off • Unavailablity of employee • Employee skill match with required job role • Minimum / maximum hours to be worked must be observed
Creating a schedule: • Is usually done via computer…either a computer program or customized schedule sheet (ie – Excel) • Layout varies, but it must include and communicate: • dates schedule covers • department schedule is created for • each employees name • each available shift (day / hours required) • other notes (ie – sick, booked off, etc.) • all of this information is synthesized to ensure human resources are used in an effective and optimal manner
