Success in ‘09-’10 • “If you're walking down the right path and you're willing to keep walking, eventually you'll make progress.”- Barack Obama • Model students to help show the younger students how to act responsibly • Good Behavior + Strong Academics + Improved Attendance = AYP • Improve self and ensure a successful future
Violations for Middle Years Students • Violations will be kept on Middle Years students in order to decide who can participate in activities • You can receive violations in class, prep, hallways or anywhere in the school • After a pre-determined amount of violations, you will lose the privilege of participating in activities • A log of violations will be kept on charts in Room 308
Violations • Violations will be given for the following: -No uniform (1 violation) -Incomplete assignments/ Projects (1 violation/ 2 violations) -Late to class without a note (1 violation) -Fighting (automatic removal from upcoming activity) -Suspension (5 violations) -Major disruption (teacher and students had to stop because of the behavior) (2 violations) -Disrespectful/ Inappropriate language towards staff and/ or students (3 violations) -Repeated Warnings (student has to be redirected more than twice- including eating or drinking during class) (1 violation)
SHOW ME THE GOOD STUFF! • Students who are able to control their behavior and receive very few violations can participate in.. • Fall event • Winter dance • Spring trip • End of year luncheon
Bling Board • Each Middle Years room is equipped with a “BLING BOARD” • Earn points for your class by following the rules in the classroom, hallway and lunch room • Get compliments or impress your teacher and earn points • At 100 points your section will receive a treat from your advisory teacher
Hallway Behavior • An important place to model appropriate behavior for younger students is the hallway • Always walk in two lines and face forward • Reserve talking and questions for inside the classroom • When switching classes, go quickly and do not disturb other groups in the school
School Norms • Errands- you must have a hall pass from the teacher • Bathrooms- use them before school and during lunch • Snacks and drinks stay inside your school bag until lunch • When you go to the office, wait to be called on by a secretary • Follow directions when they are given the first time
QZAB Program • Middle year grades will once again participate in the QZAB technology program • Classrooms have access to Promethean Boards and Laptop Carts • Laptops are for class projects and learning and not for recreation • The right to use a laptop is a privilege- misuse will result in removal from the student
New This Year… • Lunch starts at 12:25 • Corrective Reading and Corrective Math periods have been added to the day…these programs will help us achieve AYP • Art prep, Library prep. Counselor prep • New principal…Mr. Bouie • In- school suspension room
Details… • After 8:35 you are marked as late to school • Bring a note in for any days you are absent • Inform your teacher of any change in address or phone number • Uniform= worn daily!!! • Cell phones and MP3 will be confiscated if seen! • You are to leave hoodies, coats, backpacks and recess supplies in your advisory closet • Transition time before lunch and dismissal will be provided to retrieve needed items
We expect… • You will follow school and classroom rules • You will listen the first time • You will show yourself and others respect • You will be a role model • You will try your hardest every day • You will open your mind to new ideas
