  2. Warm-Up • Today is Day 16 2/27 • (have a sheet of paper ready for the reading quiz) • What have you learned about daily life in Umuofia so far? Is it what you expected it to be, based on what you had seen or heard before about traditional West African life? What has been the most interesting aspect of life in Umuofia for you?

  3. Agriculture in Nigeria • Agriculture in Nigeria was and still is heavily dependent on seasonal weather. In southern Nigeria, the year-round temperature is hot because of closeness to the equator. There are four seasons: • the long rainy season (March to July), • the short dry season (August), • the short rainy season (September to mid-October) • the long dry season (late October to March). • After a “hungry season” in June and July, the New Yam Festival is celebrated in August with extensive feasting on yam dishes.
