Differentiation • Really just good teaching • Takes time to learn • What differentiation is not
Differentiation • Use UbD starting with the assessment allows you to have alternative assessments to begin with
Differentiation • Assessments- what are you using besides tests and quizzes? • Performance tasks • Demonstration-has a presentation • Portfolios • A compilation of materials
Differentiation • Parallel tasks • Menus • Create tiered tasks • Good for setting a baseline • Good for pushing kids • All the kids get to the baseline and all can get pushed
Differentiation • Modes of Instruction- both should be used • Visual • Auditory • Agenda on the board • Pacing • Checking for understanding • Think-Pair-Share good for kids with attention issues and to get kids up to speed in someone has been absent
