“I counsel you to buy gifts from me as you did when you were a child. Invest in me this year.”
“I just got the feeling that 2012 is going to be a year of gifting. That we’ve got very gifted people in this church but we have people who really need to fan the flames of the gifts that they have. So I feel like this is the year for us to really seek the spiritual gifts that God has given us. He’s given every single one of us a spiritual gift and it’s time that we all seek it. Not to just sit on our couch and wait for us to figure it out, but to actually be seeking the spiritual gifts that He has given us.”
What’s a Spiritual Gift? 4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men. 7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8To one there is given through the Spirit the [word] of wisdom, to another the [word] of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines. -- I Corinthians 12
But how do I know that I have one of those gifts? 4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men. 7Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8 To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines. -- I Corinthians 12
Why does God give Spiritual Gifts to His People?
So, how do I find out what my gifts are? 29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? 30 Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret? 31 But eagerly desire the greater gifts. -- I Corinthians 12 1 Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy. -- I Corinthians 14
So, how do I find out what my gifts are? 11 “Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? 12 Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? 13 If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” -- Luke 11
So, how do I find out what my gifts are? 6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7 For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. -- 2 Timothy 1
What happens if I honestly am not “eagerly desiring” my gifts? 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose. -- Philippians 2 10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. 11 Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. -- Psalm 51
