Local Room Tax Recommendations • Proposed Legislative Recommendations: (3rd – 8th Class Counties at 3% - Section 1770.6 & 1770.2) • Debate about Rate Increase for those counties to 5%? • Tightening up the 6 uses for room tax as spelled out in the legislation • Additional Penalty Language • Expanding the Definition of “Hotel” • Establishing “Natural Person” as those who should be paying room tax • Strengthen De-Certification Process
Local Room Tax Recommendations Proposed Educational Recommendations: DMO’s establish “DMO/TPA Minimum Standards” (Industry best practices) More partnership with state agencies on enforcement issues Work with statewide associations on collection issues and educating their constituents: County Commissioners Association, County Treasures Association, Townships, Boroughs etc… Establishing a Legal Defense Fund Establish a Hotel/Room Tax Advisory Group to mediate issues.
